dear WPML aupport team,
purchased you plugin about 2 weeks ago. well … actually didn't do enough research before buying only to find out later that your WPML plugin is currently, sadly, not compatible with the MU domain mapping plugin ;-(
contacted you guys via the contact form about 2 weeks ago but since then haven't received a reply ;-( though it said somewhere you supply a 24 hour response time …
so i thought to post a message in the message board here … hopefully getting a response this time?
thing is … i'm running a wordpress multisite install currently version 3.1.3
i also use the MU domain mapping plugin as i serve about 10 TLD domains with this single wordpress multisite install. WP multi site makes it easy to maintain a single install instead of 10 different installs … if you know what i mean
so … i really don't want to go back to 10 separate wordpress installs for each TLD domain. i think you will understand that
but the thing is, the WPML plugin is not compatible with the MU domain mapping plugin. the links just get messed up and this makes it sort of useless .. sadly … i would really like to use your nice plugin to make my sites multi language
so … is there any workaround i could use? are there any future plans to look at this issue and make WPML plugin compatible with MU domain mapping plugin?
or are there any other options for me?
please enlighten me and send me some information
thanks & all the best

We're very eager to get WPML and Domain Mapping working together.
For that, we tried to contact the author of the plugin, and we didn't get any reply. We tried to contact other who are involved in that design, only to receive automated email replies.
We want to pay them for their time in supporting us. At this stage, we don't know if there's any change needed on their side. It's an extremely complex plugin and we're just asking for help getting the correct filters and hooks.
We tried reverse engineering Domain Mapping and doing it ourselves, but we didn't manage.
If you can get any response from them, we'll be very happy to continue. We have the available resources and we very much want to add it to WPML. We also need a function like Domain Mapping for our own network of sites.

hello amir,
thanks for your reply! good to hear that you're very eager to make WPML compatible with MU domain mapping. i know it is frustrating to not receive any answer from the MU domain mapping makers … but does this mean no answer -> no development?
it would be sort of frustrating for me … as i really would love to use WPML with a wordpress multisite install … plus MU domain mapping … suppose there are many out there who would love that, too
well … in case of an update of this issue i think you will it announced in your mailing / feed list which i have signed up for.
what time frame do you think we are looking at? weeks? months? years?
also … i would like to make a proposal for your website. please create a small list of popular wordpress plugins WPML is NOT COMPATIBLE with! i would really like to see something like that on your website before purchasing the plugin.
i know there are tons of wordpress plugins but you could easily pick some very popular ones … would be nice to get that info before buying the plugin.
happened to me ;-( didn't do enough research … didn't read anything on your website about compatibility problems. so … bought the plugin … only to realize it didn't work with my setup … installed plugins.
well … would be nice to see a list posted on your website – thanks!
all the best

My best advice is that WPML users would all send messages to the author of the Domain Mapping plugin. I think that the best way to do this is using the support forum in wp.org. This is visible and gets attention (sometimes).
If one person does this, we're not going to get much. If many do, there's a better chance.
It's very simple. We'll (obviously) give them full access to WPML. We also want to pay for their time. We'll put a developer on this as soon as they're ready (not days, weeks, months, etc. – immediately).
We didn't manage to understand fully how their plugin works. We can do it by reverse engineering the entire design, but we don't have time to spend weeks on that.
If you can help with this, it will be great. The more people help, the fastest it will happen.
I don't want to have a black-list of plugins. Instead, we do our best to work with others and get their cooperation. In most cases, we succeed.

hello amir,
thanks again for the reply
ok … i will make a post at the MU domain mapping plugin page to support this issue – promise!
but actually i'm not quite sure if this would be the way to go .. because WPML wants to make their plugin compatible … and not the other way around. forgive me if i'm wrong
so i think you guys have to do something. and simply waiting for the MU domain mappping guys to do something is probably a bit too much too ask?
i know you need both sides to work on this. but the source code for MU domain mapping is there so a good developer would probably do the trick … without waiting for the MU plugin guys … just a suggestion
sadly … that you don't agree on a blacklist, i wouldn't call it a black list as it sound bad! i would call it a in-compatibility list … a list of plugins with known problems … known issues
this way people can check before buying and actually don't have to do the same mistake as i did to find out later that it doesn't work with my setup ;-(
this way i have spend 79 US$ … without being able to use the plugin at all. also contacted you a few weeks back via the contact form but haven't received a reply.
so for me this simply means money lost! or is there a way we can find an agreement? could i get a refund? could you extend my subscription expire date once WPML is compatible with the MU domain plugin? is there anyway we can work things out?
i'm definitely interested in your plugin! it looks nice, hopefully it will also work nice as i haven't had the chance to work with it yet. but the reviews sound quite impressing!
please let me know your ideas.
thanks as usual & wish you lots of success
with best regards
becki
p.s. please think again about my proposal of an in-compatibility known issues plugin list – thanks

I can't promise when we'll have WPML work with Domain Mapping. We're doing our best, but until something is working, it's not working.
Do you need a refund? If so, please use our <a href="http://wpml.org/home/contact-us/">contact form</a> and paste the content of your purchase-confirmation email, so that we can locate your order correctly.

hi amir,
thanks a lot for your reply. really do appreciate that!
actually i'm definitely interested in buying your nice plugin, but i need it to work with the MU domain mapping plugin.
well … i already purchased the plugin. the only worry is my subscription expire date as i would loose weeks, months until WPML is compatible with the MU domain mapping, if you understand what i mean?
so … thanks a lot for your offer of a refund. will contact you guys via the contact form and send you the data to get the refund in progress.
and i will definitely buy your plugin again once it is compatible … promise
thanks a lot for that
greetings & lots of success
