Just a quick question, I am looking to translate my blog Beautifille.com to Dutch and German (and more in the future). I would like all the text on the site translated (articles, titles, etc), as well as the URL slug for blog posts, and I would like all translated pages to be under their own language, such as Beautifille.com/de/.
Which option of WPML should I buy that will include all the features I want above?

Thanks for your interest in WPML. You will translate easily your post and pages with Blog version but to translate some additional strings (header strings (if you have any) or other strong you set in your theme options for example) you will need so called ‘String translatoin’ module, which is only included in Multilingual CMS version.
If you would also like to translate your images (their titles and alternative texts), you will also need a separate module for it, which is not present in Blog version.
But you can start with Blog version first, see if it fits all your needs and then upgrade to CMS paying only the difference.

I will be creating a site that must be in English and French and start with a landing page to present the viewer with the language option they will want to see the site in… This means I will essentially create all the site’s pages twice? English pages and French pages? Does WPML offer a landing page like the one I have described? Or documentation on how to create such a thing? Is there a support line to call for you guys?

For each subpage you can decide if you want to translate it or to ‘duplicate’ the orginal version. The second option meens that the content will be the same for both languages and but this subpage will be seen separately for each language version. When you update the original content the duplicated version will be synchonized automatically.
Setting up a site for a new client, already tried a different multi-lingual WP plugin but it had a conflict with the themes page builder. How can I be sure that WPML will work with the theme? Would hate to put down the money just to realize that it does not work.

WPML works ok with page builder plugins but sometimes – if you want to have different hard-coded texts in your layouts – you’ll need to copy them and edit, per language. We need to display two different currencies on the site.
It’s not a matter of conversion as the prices will be different since different factors will influence the price if in Euros or Swiss Francs.

WPML will work well with most themes. Sometimes, if there are lots of so called ‘custom theme options”, you should create a wpml-congif.xml file to handle them. http://wpml.org/documentation/support/language-configuration-files/ Sometimes this file is provoded with the theme.
Sure, you buy only one license and you can use it for all the sites you are building. Test and live, for all your customers. And only one license is needed.
Hello Martha, thanks for your question. Acctually it’s not a question of being compatible with responsive design themes but about theme compatibility in general. If your theme is fully compatible with WPML, your site built with WPML will also be also responsive.

I run a WordPress multisite installation with a woocommerce. Some site audience are adults and some are children. So i like to change the language used in woocommerce per site but there doesn’t seem to be a way to do this, with the plugins im now using (qtranslate).
I like to change “Empty shopping bag” notice for example:
Your cart is currently empty. <- great for adults
I like to change the above to this, for sites that have a other audience:
Ohoh, your basket is still empty… time to shop! <- not suitable for adults.
I also like to do this for other langauges of my sites. Is this possible with WPML?

WPML supports WooCommerce to make your onlne stores multilingual but you need a separate (it’s free and our team built it) plugin called WooCommerce Multilingual.
We built it the way to make your products translation management easier.
If your WooCommerce texts were coded using gettext functions (most of the texts were, I’m not sure about the specific ones you are asking) the translation are easy to be changed through so called po/mo files. You can also change them directly in WPML panel.

thanks for your interest in WPML.
1. No. When you install WPML it will ask you first to select the default language for your site and add other languages. Then you have to insert all translations. When you translate a post or a page it means that you publish it as a regular (normal) WordPress post/page. So the aswer for your question ‘when Google will see it?’, is the same as the answer to a question when Google will see your new regular post/page.
2. The translated posts/pages will have their slug built according to their tiltes. If your new title is in Spanish for exmaple, its new URL will alo contain this Spanish words.
3. When you remove/deactive WPML, all your posts (in all your languages) remain in your WordPress. So yes, they will be still visible from Google. If you want to remove them, you remove them the same way as regular post/pages. You can also remove them directly from your database. You can always think about removing them before you unsitall WPML – when you can easily mark for removing all the posts/pages for specific language only using bulk delete for example.

If the strings in your theme were coded according to good programming practices using so called gettext function (for example ____(‘button’,’mytheme’); you will be able to translate them the same way you translated other theme dependent strings (‘Comments’, ‘Postes by’): using po/mo files or via WPML panel.

Thanks for your question. It is possible but it depends on your theme. To translate theme opions you will need an extra file so called wpml-config.xml. Sometime these files are providied with your theme. If so, you will see all the strongs from your Theme Options panel in WPML String translation module and you can easily translate them. If there is no wpml-config.xml file, you can create it yourself, more information here: http://wpml.org/documentation/support/language-configuration-files/
For easy/standard cases you can ask for help our support forum. They will help you to create it. But sometimes, (depending on the theme) we have to ask the theme author to join our theme compatibily program to fully adjust the theme.

My need is especially the following: As there will be a lot of pictures on my site I do not want to duplicate them in order to be able to view them in other languages. I am not sure if the point “Manage attachments in different languages” in your comparison chart refers to this. If so, I would have to purchase the CMS version. Am I right? Which version is the correct one for me? Thank you!

if you deal with images, want to translate them but still to use the same physical copy, you will need a Image Translation module which is only available in Multilingual CMS version.

I currently have an online English language tutor site. It was originally designed for the Japanese market, so most page links are formatted as http://www.mobilenglish.co/jp/home , etc.
However I am wanting to add other countries to our list of potential clients. My real question is….when I add Japanese language to the site with WPML will it overwrite or otherwise affect my existing site? ( Will it replace pages at http://www.mobielenglish.co/JP?)

Yes, you can handle it with WPML. There are several ways. I don’t expect any major issues but I would strongly recommend you to copy the whole site first and to test different approaches on your test server.
Let me explain how WPML works and what are the possibilities.
When you install WPML it will ask you to select the site main language first. All your current posts and pages will have this language set. Then you can add more languages. If your select English for your site as the main/default languages, all current posts and pages will have the same URLs as they have now. When you add Japanese as the second language, your Japanese translations will have a prefix ‘ja’ in their URL, look at our wpml.org site for example (http://wpml.org/ja/)

Yes, can set “Exchange Rate” for each additional currency or set distinct prices for each currency when you add a new product.

Let me explain how WPML works and what are the possibilities.

Now, you can add translations manually for each post/page. You can use ‘Copy form original’ feature to use original content. You can also use ‘Duplicate’ option for untranslated content.

I have an existing website using the format of http://www.mobilenglish.co/jp/home . It was originally designed for Japanese clients…Will installing WPML overwrite the jp directory with a new one?
