  1. Hi I’m looking to purcase a translation solution for a client and build them a site possibly using one of Elegant themes.

Can you please answer me a couple of questions please?

Firstly does this plug-in support elegant themes? If so how would the language tabs show? Would they need much customisation to fit with a theme design?

Secondly can you change the overall images per traslation page, for instance if we used the http://elegantthemes.com/preview/Vertex/ theme would we be able to change the complete background image, calls to action etc. when changing languages.

    Thanks,

    • Hi, thanks for your questions and your interest in WPML.
WPML is compatible with lots of Elegant themes but I cannot find this particular one in our compatibility list. Since I don’t know how the big image was implemented I cannot answer if this will be possible to translate it with WPML.

Generally speaking every theme that uses WordPress API runs multilingual with WPML. But currently the themes offered in the WP marker are more and more sophisticated and offer more and more custom options. These to be translated require the presence of so called wpml config file. Some developers can create this file themselves, while for others it is a challenge. This is why we ask theme authors for their help here. When a theme author provides his/her theme with such a file your works is easy – all the theme depended strings will appear in our String translation module.

      • Thanks for the info Agnes…

So just to clarify: changing images/spalshes/scrollers etc. on a per language basis is possible but it’s theme dependent right?

If we purchased the full version with support would your developers be able to help us implement this is we get stuck on a particular theme? I only ask because there is a pretty tight deadline on this project so I can’t spend weeks or months trying to figure out this functionality as it’s imperative that the client has this.

Basically our client wants potentially every image, page and post to be different (or translated if you prefer) depending on the language used. If this is possible on all the recomended themes we’ll aim to choose one of these as our starting point and take it from there.

        Thanks,

        Duncan

  2. Hi, I have a blog account and want to upgrade it to CMS one. As I understand that there is a discount, but I cannot find how. Is there any special order page for it? Thank you!

    • Hi,
please log into your WPML account and you will see all the links in the subscription section on the right, together with the prices.

  3. Hello,
I’ve been asked to develop a website for a client. Ideally they want to be able to offer it in multiple languages.

As I understand it, using the wpml plugin will enable users to switch language but will not actually create any translations of content. Is this correct?

The site will also have a forum for discussion, for which I will probably use the bbPress plugin. Will wpml work with this? And if so, presumably it means having separate translations of each piece of content, is that correct?
Is there any way to have a real time translation of content, so users of different languages can talk to each other quickly and easily?

Please will you confirm that purchasing and installing the wpml CMS version will translate the admin side of WordPress? If we have a contributor/editor who operates in another language, I would like to know they can move around the Admin section easily. Would I also need to translate this myself?

Finally, the site will probably built using Divi, by Elegant Themes and the Yoast SEO plugin. Will this work? They’re both modular so I’m worried content might not be ‘seen’ properly by wpml.

Many thanks – and sorry for the inquisition!

    • Hi Siân,
thanks for your questions and your interest in WPML.
Yes, WPML don’t translate your contents but let users to provide the contents in different languages and then to make it fully accessible from the front-end as well (by switching the language).

Yes, WPML is compatible with bbPress plugin. We use it ourselves for our WPML support forum.

      >Is there any way to have a real time translation of content, so users of different languages can talk to each other quickly and easily?
Not real time but you can use our ICanLocalize service and its professional translator to translate your contents. It’s full integrated with WPML which means that you so you can do this directly from your WordPress admin and you also receive it directly to your WordPress.
Here you will see a video how it works:
      http://www.icanlocalize.com/site/services/wordpress-translation/

      >Please will you confirm that purchasing and installing the wpml CMS version will translate the admin side of WordPress?
You can set your admin language independently of your front-end language. You just have to select an appropriate option in your WPML settings.

WPML works great with Yoast SEO plugin, we also use it in this site. Divi theme is not in our theme compatibility list but generally speaking every theme that uses WordPress API runs multilingual with WPML.

What should work without any problems even if your theme is not announced as WPML fully compatible. You will still be able to translate:
posts, pages, menus, tags, categories, custom post types, custom fields, taxonomies, different strings etc.

      • Thanks Anges, that’s very helpful.

I found the list of approved themes and noticed there are quite a lot from Elegant Themes on there, so I might well pick one from the list instead.

Very pleased to hear it works with bbPress.

        Thank you again.
        S

  4. I want to have the little flags in the menu bar or somewhere else (just as you have below in this screen). Is this a possibility or how can people choose between the languages?
I want also the greenlandic flag. Is this possible?
    Thank you in advance.

  5. Hi,

Basically I need to move my site to wordpress, my site is aspx custom made. Its English-Arabic site.
I need to know if it can swap the menu to right-to-left for Arabic site and Left-to-Right for English site.
Is it possible to swap post from English to Arabic and vice-verse.

Please clarify that its not a translator, as we need to add arabic post, and dont want any translation to english or to arabic.

Any trial version of the plugin is available to test.

    Thanks

  6. Questions for WMPL

    Hi there,

    A couple of pre-sale questions:

I have my own Japanese translation of the website I’m building for a client. Since I haven’t done any translated websites before, I want to know what’s the best way to work on this:
The client hasn’t given me the Japanese translation of the content so I will be working on the English version first. Is it okay to add the WMPL plugin later when I got the Japanese version, or should I set it up before I start adding contents to the website?
Since I won’t be needing any translation jobs for the content, how will the WMPL still be helpful? I suppose it would be easier to manage the pages in the back end? But if you have more inputs, I would need it so I can tell my client.

    • Hi there,
yes, you can install WPML later.

WPML lets you manage your posts in different languages from one place, one WordPress installation. It is much easier to control the translation from one WordPress dashboard rather than having for example separate WordPress installs for different languages.

  7. Hi. I am writing again because my previous comments from yesterday didn’t even show up here… I need WPML version 3.0.1 – is it possible to get it today? I was told that my theme is compatible only with that version and after theme update it will work with your newest version. I am using Gabby from Victheme. Please, answer this time because I can’t wait any longer…

    • Hi Marciek, if your WPML subscription is still valid and you have an active account you can download all previous version. To do so please:
      1. Log in to your WPML account
      2. Go to the Downloads section
      3. Click the Changelog link under the plugin you need to download and locate the version you need.
      4. Press the Download blue button

  8. Hi, i have a question.
I would like to buy the wpml translation, but first i would like to try it, so i want buy the multilingual cms that cost 79$, but if it will be as i need i would like to buy immediatly the lifetime version.
my question is, if i buy multilingual version than i want to upgrade (in a week i mean)to the life time version should i pay 79$ than 195$ or there is a way to pay just the difference, or there is some discount if someone want to do this way?

    • Hi Nikola,
WPML doesn’t translate your contents automatically.
WPML provides you an interface allowing to translate all your WordPress elements: posts, pages, menus, tags, categories, custom post types, custom fields, different strings etc. So WPML makes you WordPress site multilingual but doesn’t translate your contents. To translate your texts you have to possibilities:
      1. To provide the translations yourself
      2. To send a post/page to our professional translators from ICanLocalize service. This is integrated with WPML so you can do this directly from your WordPress admin and you also receive it directly to your WordPress.
Here you will see a video how it works:
      http://www.icanlocalize.com/site/services/wordpress-translation/

  9. Hi,
i need to try your plugin on a client website, to know if is compatible with it!
There’s no trial version of your plugin?

    Thank you

    • I’m sorry, there is no trial version in that pure form to install it and test.

We are also the authors of Toolset pugins. And some of our Toolset demo sites (which are available for free) use WPML.
      Please go here:
      http://discover-wp.com/

      and choose one of these:
      Bootstrap Real Estate
      Bootstrap Commerce

they use WPML. This way you will be able to see WPML in action.

We also have a refunds policy so you can buy WPML and if you don’t like it we will give your money back, no questions asked:
      http://wpml.org/purchase/refunds-policy/

  10. I have several separate instances of WordPress installed on different domain names. These websites are totally separate. If I want to render each of these websites multi-lingual do I have to buy a licence for each instance of WordPress or can I use the same licence for all of them?

I should add that all domains are add-on domains of a master domain name and are therefore all hosted on the same server.

    • Hi Victoria,
you need only one WPML license. And you can use it for all the sites you are building. It doesn’t matter how they are hosted.

  11. Hi,

This is probably a stupid question but… if I’ll buy the WPML, I can do the translations “on my one” correct? I don´t need to use yours translators, or do I? Thanks

    • Hi,
there is no such thing as stupid questions. Besides your question is the most frequently asked questions I’m getting here, so easy 🙂

Yes, you are right. You can provide your own translations as well. So you can either use our ICanLocalize services which is fully integrated with WPML (you will find some options when you install WPML, you can also hide them) or you can insert your translations. It’s up to you.

  12. Hello!
So to make it clear for me. Can I translate site(blog) to another language and also upload different images and widgets? So the site will have same design and content with just different language, widgets and images?
    Thank you!

    • Hi Tony, yes, WPML allows you to translate all your WordPress elements including images and widgets. Yes, it works exactly as you described it: the design remains the same only the contents change.

  13. Dear support team

I would like to buy WPML plugin but i don’t know if it is compatible with Optimizepress 2.0

Can you clear this out for me please…

Optimizepress support tells me that they don’t know if this will work cause of their live editor…

In some threads i read in the support section it says that is compatible but it’s not 100% guaranteed to work.

Please give me a clear answer of if WPML can and will work with Optimizepress Live Editor

    Thank you

  14. Hello,

I got WPML plugin with some WP theme and I extremely frustrated using it. I’ve been working on this all day long for hours and there is bunch of issues not working.
First when you update a page it automatically adds new ID to that page and homepage is then “Page not found”. So whenever you update you lose that connection.
Second, language icons its so difficult to change to text cause it won’t save that change. There is 3rd, 4th etc

I’m programmer for over 10 years and I can’t figure this plugin, so sooo frustrating with lots of time wasting. I uninstalled it and really have no wish to install it again.

    Tony

    • Dear Tony,
I’m sorry to hear you are having trouble using WPML. Your feedback is very appreciated but it’s very hard to provide technical support over comments. Unfortunately there is no way to include code snippets or follow up on the status. Can you re-post this in our technical forum? This way we can follow-up with the right support person. Visit: https://wpml.org/forums/forum/english-support and we will follow-up with you quickly.

There are over 400,000 websites that use WPML successfully. I’m sure there is a way to help your case as well.

  15. Hi,

I am researching the development of a stockphoto site. The pictures will be added as products in WooCommerce. The products (photos) will be searchable by IPTC/Meta data (converted into product tags and product categories). Are the product tags and product categories translatable with WPML? And if so, do WPML “remember” translations? For example I add a picture of a duck. There is a product tag “Duck” to translate. So we translate it to “Eend” (dutch). When a new photo of a duck with a product tag “Duck” is uploaded for sale will the tag automatically translate to “Eend” or do I have to translate it again by myself.

    HTH

    Adri

    • Hi Adri, WPML and WooCommerce Multilingual plugins support image, product, categories and tags translations. But WPML doesn’t translate your content automatically. It is always you who provides the translations.

  16. Hello I just purchased your plugin but cannot login to my account with the credentials I got on the email. Could you fix this asap?

  17. Hi

I’m using a plugin called UserPro which displays wordpress user profiles front end. It stores custom field names in the usermeta table. On the UserPro forum other people have tried to use WPML with UserPro but cannot translate these form fields.

Before I purchase WPML I would like to know if it’s possible to translate these custom field names that are stored in the usermeta table?

    Thanks

  18. Hello. I’ve purchased a Lifetime version on Dec. 31 2013. It is not showing up in my account.

I have the order info. Who can I contact to resolve this?
    Thanks.

  19. Hi! I sell premium WordPress themes and I would like to integrate WPML on my themes. What plugin license should I buy? Is Go-global program also for premium themes?

  20. It’s a general question really, we already have professional translations of all our pages.

It is in Italian and German already

we would like URL strings to look like this:

    UK site:

    mainsite.com/widgets

    German site:

    mainsite.com/de/widgets

    Italian site:

    mainsite.com/it/widgets

other than that the text will all be the same on every page (except obviously in the correct language) and the photographs and everything will be in the same places.

It is my understanding that your product makes it easy to achieve this.

But I’m confused because it seems to want to translate everything-which we don’t need as it’s already translated
