  1. I am looking for a plugin for my client’s site.
can you help me understand this statement in your site

It allows to translate every aspect of your site, right from within the WordPress Admin panel.

My question- does that mean i need not translate the pages in the website? Will the translation be automatic and accurate?
    Thanks

    • WPML doesn’t do automated translation. It’s a tool that lets you (or your clients) translate. If you are looking for automated translation, we recommend to use the live Google translation as a widget in the site. Google severely penalizes websites that use machine translation as their own.

  2. Hello,
I have to translate a site for my client that has both plugin Nextgen Gallery and Wp e-commerce. Can I translate them? With Css or Blog version?
    Thank you

    • Right now, there are some small compatibility problems with the WP E-Commerce plugin. We’re working through them but there are issues with variation translation. NG Gallery and WPML run fine together.

You will need the full CMS version.

      • thank you. I ask you some questions:
        • wp e-commerce: you say there are some small compatibility problems, I need only to translate products page and their categories. For other technical details of the shop (checkout, shop-cart) I use the files .mo. Is it possible?

        • NG Gallery: Can I translate description of each photo? and the name of each category and album?

        This is the website: http://www.artevaniglia.it

    • thank you Amir. I ask you some other important questions for me before I buy the WPML:

  3. Hi Amir,
i am not really expecting this, i purchased WPML item from wpml.org and paypal sent me confirmation. I contacted your billing department they said they did not received my payment.
i am worry right now about my purchase and my credit card please confirm with me within half an hour otherwise i have to contact my visa company and that has its own process!
    please confirm with me ASAP.

    • Most sites that are more than a simple blog use the full Multilingual CMS package. It will allow you to translate everything, including the tagline, theme options and other texts that are not part of a page or post.

  4. I work on a professional CMS WordPress Website and I need to setup the base for multilingual use right now, at the beginning. We need custom page content also, like individual home page, individual slider and stuff like that, for each language we want to use. This is why I have changed the settings for multisite use. The current setup allows us to use subdomains.

My question: Does your plugin NOT need the multisite setup that I already did? Do I have to reverse my changes to use your plugin? I do not want to mess up the work I did so far.

Hope you can explain to me.

    Cheers

    • You don’t need that multisite setup. WPML will allow you to control different content for different languages from within the same WordPress admin.

You can assign the same page template to all languages, or use different templates for each language.

With WPML, you can put different languages in different domains, or subdomains or in the same domains, in language folders.

  5. Hi, my new client asked me to mod his WP website. I noticed WPML Multilangual plugin installed but version 2.4.1. Actually I’m upgrading their website with Rt-Theme 15 but seems that there are several conflicts with your plugin. For example, when activated, a lot of portfolio-items disappear from the portfolio categories, how is it possible?
The “Add Media” button also have problems, it just shows 20 items in the Media Library but not all…
Should an upgrade fix that? I’m quite sure my client doesn’t have any purchase mail or confirmation as the old webmaster disappeared… What can I do? Thanks.

    • It’s always recommended to use the recent version of both the theme and all plugins, including WPML. WPML 2.4.1 is fairly old and is not really compatible with WordPress 3.5. After you upgrade, you can use our support forum and our support folks will help you through any remaining issues.

I don’t see the RT theme listed in our theme compatibility page:
      http://wpml.org/documentation/theme-compatibility/

This means that we haven’t tested it with WPML. We are very happy to work with different theme authors and iron out compatibility issues. Would you like to check if the theme author also wants to work with us?

  6. 1. You mentioned that there are compatibility issues with WP E-Commerce. When do you anticipate these will be resolved? How can I be certain about this?

    2. Is the full CMS version applicable to any online shop?

    3. Are there compatibility issues with other wp plugins? Should I check separately for each before installing?

    4. What is the suggested installation procedure? Does WPML have to be installed before any other plugin first thing after wp installation?

Thank you in advance for your help.

    • Honestly, we’ll be certain when we see it all working. We’re currently handling it. I want to believe that we’ll have a good update in about 2 weeks, but these things are complicated and require some changes on our side and some on WPEC side. WPEC compatibility is very important to us. We’ll write about it as soon as we have something.

You will need the full Multilingual CMS version, so that you can translate everything.

Right now, we have a lot better compatibility with WooCommerce. In fact, we’re switching our own e-commerce system on wpml.org to use WooCommerce. There are many commercial sites that use WooCommerce and WPML.

For WooCommerce, you can follow this guide:
      http://wpml.org/documentation/related-projects/woocommerce-multilingual/

  7. I am looking into purchasing this plugin. I would like to know whether there are different styles of displaying the languages on the web page other than the drop down?
Can I upload my own flag images or use just my own text for the language selection to be displayed on the page. Example, your own site has a list of flags with country names, it’s not a dropdown. Is this offered in the plugin?
I would like to use my own icons, can I do this?

    • WPML comes with drop-down and footer language switchers (like you see in the footer of our own site). You can configure the colors and other visual properties in WPML’s GUI. You can upload your own country flags, or use the ones that come with WPML.

  8. Hi Amir,
I purchased this plug in but thee is much going on and i have limited time, is there any quick seup that i can have this plug in work with these three plugins
    1, events manager
    2. Wp business directory plugin
    3. wp job board

    please help, i really appriciate.
    thanks

  9. The guys from Rt-Theme said in support page that their theme supports the wpml plugin and there’s also a setting about WPML flags position too. I could try to solve the problem by upgrading your plugin to latest version but my client hasn’t got any purchase documentation. What can I do? Buy again? Thanks.

  10. Great addon! just wondering.. does it support RTL? I have a website based on english, can I purchase this and add Arabic and it automatically is read as RTL as it’s supposed to? Thanks

    • Yes. WPML works fine with RTL languages. We’re using WPML ourselves with Hebrew and everything is working smoothly. WPML is fully localized to Arabic too.

  11. thank you Amir for your reply. I ask you some other important questions for me before I buy the WPML:
    • wp e-commerce: you say there are some small compatibility problems, I need only to translate products page and their categories. For other technical details of the shop (checkout, shop-cart) I use the files .mo. Is it possible?

    • NG Gallery: Can I translate description of each photo? and the name of each category and albums?

  12. Hi

We have an e-commerce site which is using Prestashop. We currently support English and Spanish so our URL is givensa.com/es/ and givensa.com/en/

Now what we would like to do is to run a WordPress blog in a subdomain like:
    blog.givensa.com

If we want to do this in various languages. How would that look like, would it be:
    blog.givensa.com/es/ and blog.givensa.com/en/

or some other combination. I am quite new with how websites are structured and I am a bit afradi that there will be some collision between the normal store url at givensa.com/en/ and the blog at blog.givensa.com/en/

Is there any potential pitfall here or will these adresses be handled completely separated?

Any other things that I should consider?

Thanks in advance for the help

    • WPML will put the default language in the root and additional languages in their folders, so you will have:
blog.givensa.com (English, if that’s your default language)
      blog.givensa.com/es/

and similarly any other languages that you may add later.

What you’re doing is completely straight forward and I don’t see any pitfalls.

      • That sounds encouraging.

Is it straight forward to install WPML at any time or is it prefered that it is there from the start. We are currently not translating our blog so step one is to migrate from Blogger to WordPress. Is it ok to wait with installing WPML for a while or should it be installed directly when setting up the new blog instance?

        BR

        Johan

        • Yes, it’s simple to install WPML. There are no special server requirements or anything else. Just install the plugin and add languages to your site. You can install it when you’re setting up the site or add later. It’s the same.

  13. Hi,

I will certainly buy WPML for an ecommerce website for one of my customers. I want to know how it works for the support after I will buy the plugin. I propose a package for the website to my customer and so, I will buy in my name all the plugins I need.

For WPML, is it possible after the delivering of the website that I transfer the ownership of WPML plugin to my customer in order he could be able to contact you directly ?

    Thanks by advance for reply

    • You don’t really need to transfer anything to your clients. WPML is a developers tool. You can install it on as many client sites as you need. You’ll be able to enter the upgrade login to your client site, so that they get automated upgrades without you handling it.

  14. Hi,

I am deciding between two versions, blog and CMS version. I am planning to do a simple personal portfolio in two languages, I need to translate only static pages.

Here is my question. Am I able to translate with blog version also pages, not only posts. Will be the name of pages translated also?

If I will choose blog version and later decide it is not suitable can I upgrade?

    • The main difference for you would be the String Translation module, which is not available in the basic Blog version. This module lets you translate texts that don’t belong to any post. For example, it includes the tagline, widget titles and other ‘non post’ texts. You can buy the Blog version and upgrade later to the full CMS version.

  15. Hi,

I am using this theme and wondering if it is compatible with your plugin
    http://themeforest.net/item/apollo-modern-magazine-newspaper-template/3566316?ref=maxspiker
I have installed Polylang. However, it does not work with the slider and the posts on the home page.
I do not mind paying for your plugin, However, I hate wasting time to try it.
Can you tell me if your plugin will address the issues? You can see a test website here
    http://wp.shiftingweb.com/

    Thanks

  16. I would like to purchase WPML but want to know if I will be able to manually change any or all of the translated content. So let’s say on one post I feel that I can do a better job to translate myself. Or does everything need to happen automatically

    • WPML doesn’t do any sort of automated translation. It’s a tool that lets you translate yourself. You will be able to translate everything in your site, including posts, pages, menus, widgets and whatever else you have in WordPress.

  17. Hello,

I bought WPML few hours ago.. paid with Paypal visa and have not received account information.
I tried reseting the password but with no luck…

    Can you help?

    Thanks

  18. Hi! I’m looking for a solution for translating every aspect of the website (meaning all widgets and everything). I really don’t want any english on my norwegian site. Is this manageable with wpml on all themes?

    • Yes, this is how WPML works. You will have completely different content for each language, all linked together as translations.

    • I see several password reset from you and it appears that you’re not getting our emails. I’ve just resent your new-account email from my personal email. If you’re not seeing it, please look in your SPAM box.

  19. Hi, one of our clients that is migrating to wordpress is looking for the same functionality that WPML provides. I am wondering if you have some kind of a trial license that I can use to do a proof of concept for the customer.

    • Sorry, but we don’t have temporary accounts for WPML. If you buy it and you or your client are not 100% happy, we can always refund your payment.

  20. Hi,
Just bought the basic WPML plugin. My plan were to use it in a 2 language site that includes blog posts, general stuff such as “about us”, “gallery” etc… And also the need to translate the “navigation” etc… Basically everything…

So would i need to upgrade to Pro version to be able to do so, I’m not looking to have different content based on language. Just basically a language switch depending on the Geo location or by user choice..

    Thx
    M

    • The main feature that you’re missing with the Blog version would be the String Translation. This allows to translate strings that don’t belong to posts, like the tagline, widget titles and theme texts.

You can start translating your site. If you need that functionality, you can always upgrade and pay the difference.
