We’re translating quite a few WordPress sites, but too few web designers are claiming their affiliate commission, so it’s probably time to explain how it works and how you can benefit from our affiliate plan.

ICanLocalize professional translation and affiliate plan

You probably know about the professional translation available via WPML (WP admin->WPML->Pro translation).

What you might not know is that web developers can get a 30% affiliate commission of every translation job that we do.

To earn this affiliate commission, all you need to do is include your affiliate information in the theme. WPML does the rest.

If your client decides to use our professional translation service (at any time), your account will be credited automatically. When the client enables the professional translation, we’ll create an account for them and assign you as the affiliate. We’ll credit your account for every translation job this client does.

Some figures to start your appetite

Although there’s no such thing as “average client”, we do have some stats for you.

Most clients who take translation work from ICanLocalize translate websites, software, help manuals and various office documents. A typical client spends about $7,000 (USD) on translation work. From that, we make $1,400 and pay $420 to the affiliate.

You will get an affiliate commission for everything the client translates, not only the website.

How to add your affiliate code to WordPress themes

First, you’ll need to create an account at ICanLocalize. It’s free and takes a minute.

Once you’ve created an account, click on the Affiliate tab.

The Affiliate information box shows your affiliate ID and key.

It includes two PHP define statements that need to be added to the theme. function.php would probably be the best place.

When the client creates a new account at ICanLocalize, WPML will include your affiliate ID, indicating that the theme came from you and associating this client with your affiliate account.

You can use the same affiliate ID for any number of WordPress sites.

Tracking your affiliate income

Click on the Report link under Affiliate. You’ll see a list of the people who are translating with ICanLocalize under your affiliate account.

To see your balance, click on My Account->Deposits and payments. From that page you can also withdraw payments to your PayPal account.
