Getting Started

Start by installing and activating the following:

  • BeTheme theme
  • WPML core plugin and WPML String Translation add-on

If you’re new to WPML, check out our Getting Started Guide. It quickly walks you through all the translation options you can use.

One of these options is Translate Everything Automatically – the quickest way to translate and the easiest way to keep your content up to date. This feature automatically translates pages, posts, custom post types, custom fields, taxonomies, WooCommerce products, and more as you add and edit content. Using Translate Everything Automatically with BeTheme will speed up the workflow.

Ensuring Compatibility with Muffin Builder

The BeTheme theme is bundled with Muffin Builder. To ensure compatibility with WPML’s Advanced Translation Editor, make sure your Muffin Builder content is stored as serialized and not encoded. This allows WPML to read the content and make it available for translation.

  1. Go to BeThemeTheme OptionsGlobalAdvanced.
  2. Scroll down, and if not already set, change the value of the Muffin Builder data storage to Serialized | Readable format, required by some plugins

If you have already created some content with Muffin Builder before setting up WPML, you may need to Update such pages or posts to make their content available for translation.

Translating Pages

With WPML, you can translate any type of content on your site, including pages and posts.

If you have Translate Everything Automatically turned on, the translation of pages, posts, custom post types, custom fields, and taxonomies will be automatically taken care of. If it’s not turned on, we explain the manual translation of these content types in the following sections.

Translating Pages Built Using the Muffin Builder

Here is a page created using the Muffin Builder.

A page created with Muffin Builder in the default language

Translating pages built using the Muffin Builder is similar to translating pages using the default WordPress editor. Simply, click the plus icon in the language box to translate the page into the desired language.

Translate the page content, save the translation, and publish the page. This is how the translated page looks on the front-end:

Translating Pages Built With WPBakery Page Builder

BeTheme also comes bundled with WPBakery Page Builder.

Visit our documentation page for exact steps on how to translate contents build with WPBakery Page Builder. You might find mixed languages on the front-end. This happens with widgets that may rely on AJAX requests to fetch content. To fix this, you need to enable the language cookie.

Translating Portfolio Pages and Categories

BeTheme comes with many custom content types such as Clients, Testimonials, and Portfolio. To translate any custom post type items, you need to follow the same steps as for translating any other types of pages or posts. You can translate yourself or send content to be translated by others.

The following image shows how to start the translation for a Portfolio item from its editing page.

Starting a translation of a Portfolio item

Portfolio Categories can be translated while translating your pages, on the Translation Editor screen.

Additionally, you can translate your portfolio Categories on the WPMLTaxonomy Translation page. Select the Portfolio Categories from the drop-down menu and a list of your categories will appear. Click the plus icon to translate a category for the respective language and use the dialog box that appears to add your translation.

Keep in mind that the translations of categories are universal: if you make a change, they will be updated everywhere.

Translating Texts From BeTheme Theme, Plugins, and Other Places

Besides content coming from posts and pages on your site, there are usually some texts coming from other places. The most common examples are themes and plugins.

To learn how to translate these texts, read our documentation page about translating strings.

Translating Menus

With WPML, you can easily synchronize your language menus. For more information, please see our complete menus translation tutorial.

Translating Sliders

BeTheme comes bundled with Slider Revolution. Read our documentation on how to create multilingual sliders using Slider Revolution to translate the slider in the homepage and any slider created using the Slider Revolution plugin.
