If you are using our support, you might have noticed two languages in the last few days. We are very happy to announce the availability of native German and Simplified Chinese support for WPML.

True, most WPML clients can read and write English just fine. However, we all know that it’s a lot more fun to get help in your own language. As our team expands, we now have dedicated support in English, Spanish, German and Chinese.

When you create support threads in these languages, they are automatically routed to our native speaking support staff. Response time in all languages is the same, as we are able to clear most support requests in a few hours. Of course, when questions require complex debug, things may take a bit longer, but it’s the same in all languages.

While we’re on the subject of support, I’d like to introduce our support team, so that you know the people behind the nicknames.

Harshad, India / English

Harshad was the first to join us working full time on WPML support. He provides first tier support for WPML and also specializes in e-Commerce.

Sarah – Germany / English

Sarah is an extremely friendly support person, providing accurate and timely help.

Andreas – Germany / English and German

Andreas provides timely support for clients in European timezone. He is our main German support person, handling everything from basic issues to troubleshooting.

David – Spain / English and Spanish

David provides first tier Spanish support. David is also responsible for our WooCommerce compatibility. David is also responsible for our support system and our e-commerce system.

Dominykas – Lithuania / English

Dominykas is responsible for our theme compatibility program. Dominykas provides second tier support for WPML and compatibility with WPEC and JigoShop plugins.

Luo – China / English and Chinese

Luo provides support in both WPML and Toolset forums. As a native Chinese speaker, Luo can help in both Simplified and Traditional Chinese.

Adriano – Brazil / English and Portuguese (upcoming in our support)

Adriano, from Rio, is the newest member of our support team. He’s been building and designing websites since 2005. Adriano provides first tier support for both WPML and Toolset and will be responsible for our Portuguese support as soon as it’s live.

Mihai – Romania / English

Mihai is WPML’s lead developer. Although you don’t often see him in the support forum, advanced support issues often end up with him.

We hope that you are enjoying our support. We will do everything in our power to help you build multilingual sites quickly and conveniently.

Do you feel that localized support in your language would significantly help you? What language would you like us to add most?

How can we make WPML better for you?

  1. If it’s private support – it’s ok. But, public support – viewable for all – should be in english. Then the resource to search in will be better. If you split it up in many different languages the resource will be smaller.

But, I understand you already decided to go for support in different languages.

    • We just see that it’s a lot more effective. Since we’ve added Spanish support, the number of back and forth iterations have gone down. We have Spanish speaking support people and our clients speak Spanish, so why not let them communicate conveniently in their language. Same for German and I hope that Chinese will go well too.

      • I agree with Bjorn (sorry, I don’t have the sliced ‘o’ in my keyboard).

I’m italian but i prefer to keep support in English (and I will) for different reasons:
        – Common language
        – if I’m looking for something, I can use a single language; I don’t need to search the same words or sentence in more than one language.
        – if there is only one person speaking my language that can provide support, and he hasn’t the right skills to answer, or to provide support in general, he could even tell me untrue things and nobody will know that (I’ve quite some experience as a former technical support agent and I know that things like the happens): using English anyone else would be able to contribute to threads.
        – nowadays, if you’re a developer of any level, actually, if you’re anything and you still can’t write/read English maybe is better to start learning. In Italy we have a very low percentage of people that knows at least some basic English: “services” likes these, tht provide support on their own panties language, doesn’t help increasing this percentage.

    • I support Bjørn’s view. I suspect that splitting the support into several language specific forums will result in numerous duplicate support entries across languages and making searching more difficult. So although my first language is not English, I prefer to keep support in English.

But if you believe this will make it easier for some users and you can live with the duplicate questions, go for it.

  2. Just wondering how many people from the Netherlands are using WPML. But usually Dutch (which is the Netherlands language) people are well trained in English. Nevertheless… Dutch support would be nice for many.

  3. Good idea! As for adding a language; Dutch would be nice as well! 🙂
Not that I’m having problems with English but in some cases it’s easier to explain what you mean in your native language…

  4. German is my language and it is great to know that i can talk in my mother language, when the issue is to hard to explain in english.

    • That’s exactly why we’ve started this. It’s easier for both you and our support team. Go ahead and give it a try next time you need any help 🙂
