This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
Let's say I'm adding a French Canadian version to my website and I already have a French version available. Is there an easy way to duplicate all of my string translations from French to French Canadian?
Solution:
Yes, this is possible to achieve. You will need to use the export/import feature from String Translation: https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/string-translation/#import-export-po

After generating the .po file containing your French translations (and adding the French Canadian custom language), you can import them in this section, and choose the desired language to receive the translations.
