MCIR – Munich Center for Internet Research

On December 1, 2015, the Munich Center for Internet Research commenced operations as a new research center of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences. The center carries out extensive scientific research on societal changes that go along with the digitization and the internet and will give guidance on how to shape these developments successfully. For example, studies are already underway that examine how the use of cloud computing transforms digital working environments or who is responsible for the actions of autonomous, smart robots.

This research center is multinational, interdisciplinary and practice-oriented. The institute also acts as a “think tank” for industry and society. Pressing questions are taken up from industry and society and the institute will provide advice to political and societal actors on these issues.

The target audience are international researches but also companies and start-ups. For this reason, the website is available in two languages: English and German.
