Overview of the issue

Some glossary entries are missing from the interface and cannot be re-created or re-imported.
The system throws a warning that the entries already exist, yet:

  • They are not visible under WPML > Translation Management > Translation Tools > Glossary
  • They cannot be used inside the Advanced Translation Editor (ATE)

Workaround

If you have a previously exported glossary CSV that contains the problematic entries:

  • Open the CSV file.
  • Change all values under the “kind” column from general to name.
  • Re-import the CSV in WPML > Translation Management > Translation Tools > Glossary.
  • Ensure “Overwrite existing terms” is checked during import.

If you don’t have a previously exporter the CSV:

  • Open a support ticket and provide the URL of the site that contains the problematic entries
  • Provide a reference term with the problem
  • We will prepare a fixed CSV that you can then import in WPML > Translation Management > Translation Tools > Glossary
  • Ensure “Overwrite existing terms” is checked during import.

  1. I can’t see any terms in the glossary. When I click on “Glossary”, I get the message: “No entries match your search, try expanding your search criteria.” However, I believe the terms are there, because when I try to add them again, I get the message: “This term already exists and can be edited in the table. Please add a new term.”
