Hi,
our multilingual site use 5 domains (com, it, es, de, ch), and German is used as language for both Germany (.de) and Switzerland (.ch) domains.

We use 2 different domains, even if it's for the same language, because it seems that national domains rank better in their respective countries.

So we have this workflow:

- write a post in english
- translate it to german using the Translation Management
- switch manually to the german post
- duplicate to swiss

This manual intervention (instead of using the WPML translation Manager), sometime disconnect the german translation from the english one, and we are forced to delete the duplicate post to reconnect the german to english.

Being also a quiet annoying procedure, I thought to ask if you may can suggest a better alternative under this scenario?

Thanks for your help.

Best

Hello,

Thank you for contacting us. Please, my sincere apologies for the delay in answering.

To do exactly what you want, I see no other way but the way you're doing it now or with some custom coding.

Another option to Duplicate content should be precisely using Translation Management and duplicating content (in batch or individually).

You can check more in our documentation here: https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/displaying-untranslated-content-on-pages-in-secondary-languages/using-content-duplication/#batch-duplicating

Note that as a filter, you can set the language you want to list the posts/pages and then duplicate them by following the steps in our documentation.

Also, please as a test, could you disable all non-WPML plugins and see if the problem persists after duplicating the page?

Thank you.

I know about this procedure, but it needs always an admin to be done.

Now I have the problem that I cannot duplicate the post because the checkbox is greyed out.

Maybe this option is disabled because the translation has already been started or at least Translation Editor has already been accessed even if no translation has been made.

This message should be displayed if you move the cursor over the checkbox: Can't create a duplicate. A translation is in progress.

Again, in this case, you should just follow the steps I posted above to force duplication through Translation Management.

Another option should be to access the WPML > Translation Management > Translation Jobs. Select the desired post/page and click on the "Cancel selected" button at the bottom of the page.

On your initial question, if Translation Management does not work as expected then you will need custom coding to do it and this way you will be able to duplicate the posts automatically depending on the language.

We have a list of WPML hooks that can help you develop such feature, which can be seen in the links below:

Please, let me know if I can help with any other questions you may have. I'll be happy to help.

Thank you.

Sorry for the delay. I tried to replicate this and in fact, before duplicating the content you must cancel the translation that is currently being made. To do this, follow the steps below:

- Click on the WPML > Translation Management > Translation Jobs
- Select the desired post (which is still in the queue to be translated)
- Click on the "Cancel selected"

After that, you should be able to duplicate the content correctly. If this does not work, please could I look at your website to test?

I'll need to request temporary access (wp-admin and FTP) to your site - preferably to a test site where the problem has been replicated if possible - in order to be of better help.

You will find the needed fields for this below the comment area when you log in to leave your next reply. The information you will enter is private which means only you and I can see and have access to it.

Note:

*** Please let me know exactly what steps should I follow to see the problem.

*** Please, can I install the Duplicator or All in One Migration plugin to make a copy of your site and install it on my test environment? This will help me debug the problem.

*** Note: Please make a full backup of your site.
