Background of the issue:
I am trying to translate ACF Field Groups and WP Menus on my site hidden link using WPML.

Symptoms:
ACF Custom fields and Menus say they are translated, but they are not displaying.

Questions:
Why are the ACF Custom fields and Menus not showing on the front end as translated even though they say they are in the admin? Also all my pages have this notice across the top with a link which doesn't seem related "You need to translate this post manually because the field groups attached to it use different translation options."

Here is a video: hidden link

Hello,

Welcome to the WPML support forum. Before passing this thread to my colleague, I would like to share some suggestions and possible solutions for the issues you mentioned. Sorry for the late response; it was because of the holidays.

Please try the following steps after a full site backup (mandatory) and check if the result changes.

1) Upgrade to the latest version of WordPress (6.8.1)

2) Upgrade to the latest version of WPML (4.7.4 series)

3) Increase *WP Memory Limit* to *256*(the minimum required memory limit for WPML is *128*). Please check the following links for more details

https://wpml.org/home/minimum-requirements/

https://wordpress.org/support/article/editing-wp-config-php/#increasing-memory-allocated-to-php

4) Increase the *MaxInputVars* of PHP settings to *10000*. Please check the following article for more details, or contact your system admin/hosting provider for this purpose.

5) Clear all types of caches

Thanks!

I've been following this guide https://wpml.org/documentation/related-projects/translate-sites-built-with-acf/translating-the-acf-options-page-custom-fields-with-wpml/ And the translation has no text on the option page at all, the original is fine.

Hi there,

I have reviewed the video you shared with us but it looks like it might be the wrong video as it's not related to the ACF fields issue.

1. What are the settings you have set for your ACF Field Groups?

Please share a screenshot with me so I can better understand.

2. Based on this warning you are receiving

"You need to translate this post manually because the field groups attached to it use different translation options."

Typically this will happen when the fields are set in different translation options --> some translate, some copy and maybe others copy once.

What are your results if you translated manually outside of the Advanced Translation Editor using the standard WP editor?

Hey Bobby - thanks for your reply & yes, apologies it was the wrong video 🙂

Here is a better video which shows my issue:

Also attached is a screenshot of how all my ACF field Groups have been setup for translation.

I haven't done your last option yet as everything is already translated

Thank you! The video is great.

I would like to request temporary access (wp-admin and FTP) to your site to test the issue.
(preferably to a test site where the problem has been replicated if possible)

**Before we proceed It is necessary to take FULL BACKUP of your database and your website. Providing us with access, you agree that a backup has been taken **

I often use the Duplicator plugin for this purpose: http://wordpress.org/plugins/duplicator/
You will find the needed fields for this below the comment area when you log in to leave your next reply.
The information you enter is private which means only you and I have access to it.

NOTE: If access to the live site is not possible and the staging site does not exist please provide me with a duplicator package created with the duplicator plugin.

Thank you,

Hi there,

Is my user missing some access details! I am not able to review the ACF field groups at the moment.

However, I was able to locate the issue and that is indeed that some fields are set to 'copy' while others are set to 'translate' creating an inconsistency and triggering this warning.

Step 1: Go to ACF Field Group settings
Navigate to Custom Fields → Field Groups.

Open each field group attached to the problematic post.

Step 2: Check WPML translation preferences
For each field group, scroll to the "Multilingual" section.

Make sure all fields within each group have consistent translation preferences (either "Copy", "Translate", or "Don't Translate").

Step 3: Edit and resave translations
After aligning settings, go back to the post.

Hey Bobby - apologies they are hidden in the theme & you need to manually access via this url

/wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=acf-field-group

Thank you, I was able to locate them.

A few things I noticed:

1. In the ACF options they are all set to Same fields across languages
This would mean that the content will be the same accross all alnguages and not translated.

2. However, the fields themselves are set to 'translate' which is what is allowing you to translate them

I am reviewing the homepage, at the moment it looks like all fields are translated and only the footer widgets are missing, am I correct? Apologies if that is covered in your video, unfortunately I dont have access to it anymore

3. Based on the above information it might be best to set all these items to "expert" which would allow you to have full control of them and still use the ATE editor.

Hey Bobby

I was told to set the CF Fields and Options pages like that by another support person.

The Footer isn't made of widgets, its an ACF field group called "Footer" - but yes, this is missing.

There are also a couple of Menu items which look to be translated but still display the English string when viewing the Greek such as Contact and What we do.

Do you mean set the Field Groups to Expert?

Yes, if you set the Field Groups to expert you will be able to control each field and set it to the desired results. --- You are OK to leave them as is for now if it's working OK.

Please review the following screencast on how I added content for the Footer in Greek.

Loom Video:

you will want to edit the footer ACF -> use the language switcher to switch to Greek-> manually add your content and update.

Let me know your results, please.

For the menu, where do you set it from?

If I go to Appearance->Menus the menu there does not match what you have showing in the front end.

Also it's missing a translation.

Please see this documentation on how to translate menus with WPML.
