Thank you for contacting WPML support!

Is this your scenario:
- you add new widget within Widget area
- language switcher you'v set on WPML -> Languages (Menu language switcher or Widget language switcher) is gone?

Does it happen when you only activate WPML plugin, leaving other plugins disabled (but keep using the same theme)?

Please make a full backup of your site before trying this or make these changes on a staging/development site!

You can use plugins such as UpdraftPlus WordPress Backup Plugin ( or ask your host to perform a site backup.
