This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem: *The local configuration already exists* error while adding a custom language

Solution: The client is getting this warning because *pt_PT* locale is already existing in the language table of the database. As a workaround, we have to try the solution recommended in this ticket https://wpml.org/forums/topic/the-default-locale-already-exists/#post-1425896

I am trying to create a custom language in order to change the code pt-pt to only "pt"

I have followed this topic on the support forum https://wpml.org/forums/topic/change-pt-pt-slug-to-pt/

but in my case shows an alert: "The local configuration already exists"

How can I do this?

Thanks

Hello,

Welcome to the WPML support forum. I will do my best to help you to resolve the issue.

Most probably you are getting this warning because *pt_PT* locale is already existing in the language table of the database. Please try the solution recomended in this ticket https://wpml.org/forums/topic/the-default-locale-already-exists/#post-1425896 and make sure you are getting the expected result or not.

Please check the following documentation for more details.
