Background of the issue:
I was trying to translate pages into Romanian using WPML Automatic Translation (ATE) on May 13, 2025. The translation process failed, and there is no record of the job in my Translation History. However, ATE credits were still deducted from my account. Link to a page where the issue can be seen: hidden link
Symptoms:
The translation process failed with no job record in Translation History. ATE credits were deducted despite the failure. Debug logs show critical errors indicating server issues with 'Service Unavailable (503)' errors at the URL: hidden link.
Questions:
Why were ATE credits deducted despite the translation failure?
Can the credits be refunded due to the server issues?
Thank you for contacting us. Please allow me some time to check our Advanced Translation Editor server records. I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
Thank you for your patience. I’ve reviewed the translation history and noticed that many translations were triggered on May 13, 2025. Half of them are marked as completed, while the other half show “not enough credits.”
Could you please specify a few pages that were charged for credits but weren’t translated?
Hello, above contains logs from our translation job. It seems the job hasn't ended successfuly.
In addition we've got no jobs in queue from 13.05.2025.
I will need to closely examine your website. Therefore, I will require temporary access (WP-Admin and FTP) to a test site where the problem has been replicated, if possible. This will enable me to provide better assistance and determine if any configurations need to be modified.
Please note that it is important to have a backup for security purposes and to prevent any potential data loss. You can use the UpdraftPlus plugin (https://wordpress.org/plugins/updraftplus/) to fulfill your backup requirements.
Your upcoming reply will be treated with confidentiality and will only be visible to you and me.
✙ To resolve the issue, I may need your consent to deactivate and reactivate plugins and the theme, as well as make configuration changes on the site if necessary. This emphasizes the significance of having a backup.
Thank you for your willingness to help. Unfortunately, due to company security policy, I’m unable to share access to the WP Admin or FTP, even on a staging site.
However, I’ve already provided logs that contain the job ID, which I hope will help you identify the issue. If you need any specific information or additional logs, I will gladly provide them.
I appreciate your understanding and hope we can resolve the issue based on the data already submitted.
Thanks for your reply. I’ve reviewed our records again, and on May 13, 2025, you completed translations for 92 pages, using a total of 36,564 credits — which accounts for nearly all of your available credits. Additionally, you were credited 2,378 credits from May 14, 2025 onwards, and those have also been fully utilized.
Are you saying you don’t have any records of the pages translated on May 13? You can download your credit usage report by going to WPML > Translation Management > Translation Tools > Automatic Translation Engine > Overview > Automatic translation usage reports > Choose Month and click on the Download button.
The logs you pointed out show that 92 pages were translated. However, in the "Translation Jobs" panel, we only see 10 entries, dated 16.05.2025 and 18.05.2025. Additionally, in the "All Pages" or "Posts" sections of the panel, there aren't that many translated pages visible.
Thanks for your reply. I can see the missing translation jobs on your screenshot. Could you enable the Romanian language so that I could check? It looks like to me you've hidden language. Am I right?
You're right – the language was hidden because we're currently in the process of translating it. We've just enabled access to the Romanian language, so you can check it now.
Thanks for your reply. I tried to open these links hidden link or hidden link and it shows Service Unavailable - The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later. Are you able to open these translated Romanian language pages?
Thank you for your message. If a translation is not available for a specific page, the system automatically redirects to the homepage in the selected language. However, in this case, the Romanian homepage does not exist, which is why you’re seeing the "Service Unavailable" message.
Here is an example of a Romanian page that has been successfully translated using WPML automatic translation:
Let’s verify if the Romanian translations are saved in the translation memory. Please open the Automatic Translation Report and review the links that have already been translated. Then, manually open the primary language version of one of those links and translate it using the Advanced Translation Editor.
Let me know if the translations appear automatically in the editor. If they do and no credits are deducted, that means the content is indeed stored in the translation memory.
Example of some pages that are translated into Romanian.
It seems the Romanian translations are indeed saved in the translation memory. Is there a way to approve all of them at once? Right now, we have to open and confirm each one individually, which is quite time-consuming—especially since the admin panel doesn’t show which pages are already translated.
