Hello,

I have a question about buying words for ATE machine translations.

If I buy words, are the bought words tied to the website I bought them for, or can they be used for all websites in my WPML account?

Hello,

Thank you for contacting WPML support.

You can share the purchased words on multiple websites.

For more details you can read this documentation:
https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/advanced-translation-editor/merging-and-removing-websites-from-your-advanced-translation-editor-account/

Thanks,
Rohan

Thanks that's very helpful information, but I am a little confused.

I bought 20.000 words for this website: hidden link
So that created an ATE account for this website.

If I then also buy 20.000 words for hidden link
Am I correct that this will create another ATE account just for this website?

I am asking, because I a webdesign agency. Your article says:

Instead, a client can create their own Advanced Translation Editor account. You can detach the site from your account, and the client can then attach it to their own (new) account.

So if my assumption above is correct, then there is an ATE account for each of these two websites. Then how do I get my own agency account?

Thanks
JP

Hello,

Sorry for the delay.

Actually I don't get the point you are asking.

As mentioned in the documentation you can merge the 2 sites that you currently have & you can use the combined words quota.
You can manage the 2 sites from the same WPML account so I don't think you need a separate agency account as you have mentioned.

Please let me know if this is clear or if you still have any doubts.
We are happy to help you.

Thanks,
Rohan

Hello,

In the case of an account with more websites, you can add, detach or merge any no of websites according to your needs.
You can follow the process mentioned in the documentation for the same.

Thanks,
Rohan

Ok, but what is 'my account' and how do I access it?

Can I access it from my normal WPML account?
or is there a website I can access with username and password?
or do I need a dummy website for that?

Thanks
JP

Ok, where do I go after I login to my WPML account?
If I go here https://wpml.org/account/
I don't see anything about the words you can buy for the ATE.

And I bought credits for the saenliefde website I mentioned above. How do I move the credits from there to my WPML account. That is not explained in the article you sent me.

Hello,

To access the area, login to your WordPress admin & navigate to WPML > Settings > How to translate posts and pages > select "Use WPML's Advanced Translation Editor" & click on "Advanced Translation Editor settings"(See attached screenshot)
You will then be redirected to the page mentioned in the documentation. By default the "Translators" tab will be active, you can click on the "Websites" tab to add/remove websites.

Thanks,
Rohan

So then it is NOT linked to my WPML account but to a website.

And then I'll have to ask again how I can get move the credits that are now linked to the website can be moved away to an account that is mine?

I am an agency, some of my customer websites are translated, but my own website isn't translated and doesn't have/need WPML.

Does this mean I have to create a dummy website with WPML to get the credits in my own account?

Hello,

Sorry for the confusion.

I will explain this in detail so you can understand better.

The ATE words are always linked to the site that bought those words. Then, more sites can be added to use words from that purchase and those sites can be detached anytime.
It's not linked to the WPML account & there is no separate account for the same.
The original site that made the purchase will always own the bought words. The words can't be transferred, it's only shared within websites & and this sharing can be terminated at any point.

I hope this is clear now.

Thanks,
Rohan

Thank you for explaining.

So basically, if I want to own the words as an agency, I need to
- setup a dummy website with WPML
- buy words from that website
- then attach a customer website to share the words to translate
- and detach that website once translation is ready

Hello,

There is no need to create a dummy website.
All the words purchased for a site will be owned by that site only. You can share that quota with other websites if you want.
When you attach a website, the word quota of the new website will be shared with your website. If you detach that website, that quota will be removed from this site.

Thanks,
Rohan
