The other day I was debbuging an issue so I briefly deactivated WPML, and activated it again. Today I noticed that my theme is not translated anymore so I inspected the issue and saw that the site language is not changed to croatian in settings -> general. It always remains English (US) regardless of changing it to croatian and saving (btw. only two languages are active Croatian and German - not English). When I disable the WPML I can change the site language to Croatian without a problem.

Thank you for contacting WPML support.
I will do my best to help you solve this issue.

Could you provide the steps you are follwoing in order to change the site's language? It would be good if you could also attach some screenshots to point out the issue.

Looking forward to your answer.
Kind regards,
