I am trying to: translate the content of a page. WPML only allows me to translate titles.

I don't use ACFML plugin. I googled around about that problem, tried everything I found without any success. I cannot see how I can do to translate the page content.

I use WPBakery, WP up to date, and I can give you access to my WP account and FTP if you want. But I really need help. I think something is wrong but can't understand what.

Thanks,

R.

Hi There,

is this happening with all your pages ?

if possible please go to your pages->Edit one of the pages and scroll down to "Champs personnalisés" , it looks like most of them are set to "do not translate" which would in turn exclude the page builder items from the translation editor

once you set them to "translate" or "copy/copy once" let me know your results

Thanks ! Ok but I have 167 "champs personnalisés" and I can't see which one I have to set to "translate". I see many things about "ut_page_hero*" (ut_page_hero_rain_effect, ut_page_hero_tabs_tablet_color, ut_page_hero_inner_width and many others) but I can't see nothing that seems linked to TEXT I wrote on the pages...
Which one should I change ? Here are the lines that I see. Thank for your help !

Hello,

after reviewing them i cannot find a specific one that could cause this issue, as i do see that you have moved your translations to trash at the moment if you click on translating a page now it works as expected.

meaning that if you go to your front page and edit then add a translation the Advanced Translation Editor is picking up all the strings as expected.

before making any translations please go to your Pages->Trash and empty all the trash

let me know your results please

Hi there, Bobby is off for a few days so I am stepping in to help out. I hope that is okay.

I noticed that your text is contained in a shortcode named vc_column_text. I added this to WPML -> Settings -> Custom XML Configuration and now you can see the text in the translation editor.

<wpml-config>
    <shortcodes>
        <shortcode>
            <tag>vc_column_text</tag>
        </shortcode>
    </shortcodes>
</wpml-config>

If there is any other content missing, you can view the page in classic mode to see the shortcodes that need to be added to WPML Custom XML Configuration.

Please let me know if you need any further assistance and I will be happy to help.

Thank you very much Lauren ! It solved my problem, I think 🙂
But now, I have to translate each phrase separately. This is annoying because I have the traduction of the entire text and making a big copy-paste of the entire traduction (or copy-pastes paragraph by paragraph) is not possible. Is there a way to spare my time or do I really have to copy-past each sentence separately ?

You can switch to the classic WPML editor, which does not break the content into such little phrases. This can be changed in WPML -> Settings.

Please let me know if you need any further assistance and I will be happy to help.

Hello Lauren,
As I saw that I didn't have the opportunity to translate text within ut_title_divider_2 and ut_header tags, I modified the XML configuration you made like that :

<wpml-config>
    <shortcodes>
        <shortcode>
            <tag>vc_column_text</tag>
        </shortcode>
        <shortcode>
            <tag>ut_title_divider_2</tag>
        </shortcode>
        <shortcode>
            <tag>ut_header</tag>
        </shortcode>
    </shortcodes>
</wpml-config>

and corresponding fields appears. OK. So I wrote translation texts for ut_title_divider_2 content but when I visualize the translated page in my browser, the French original text of ut_title_divider_2 content still appears instead of English version.
The translation for ut_header and vc_column_text appears correctly.
Why is that different for ut_title_divider_2 and how can I make my translation for those fiels appearing ?
Thanks for your assistance.
Best regards,
Rémi

EDIT : you can see the problem in the page named "Yoga Therapy" :
French version : hidden link
English version, where you can see that the French titles are still displayed : hidden link
Thanks !

I tried something.
I modified the XML configuration to the following :

<wpml-config>
    <shortcodes>
        <shortcode>
            <tag>vc_column_text</tag>
        </shortcode>
        <shortcode>
            <tag>ut_title_divider_2</tag>
        </shortcode>
        <shortcode>
            <tag>ut_header</tag>
            <attributes>
                <attribute>title</attribute>
            </attributes>
        </shortcode>
    </shortcodes>
</wpml-config>

I deleted the "tradition" page (among other pages), I emptied the trash then I created a blank "tradition" page (French). I filled it with titles, images and texts. The code of that page begins with

[vc_section][vc_row][vc_column][ut_header style="global" title_linebreak_mobile="on" lead_linebreak_mobile="on" title="Nammalvar, Nathamuni et Krishnamacharya"][/ut_header][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width="2/3"][vc_column_text]
Aux alentours du IXe siècle, un enseignant nommé [...]

I published the page then re-opened that page for editing it, clicked on the (+) in the right column to add English traduction and there I see that I can translate the page title, the text "Aux alentours du..." but NOT the words "Nammalvar, Nathamuni et Krishnamacharya" (attribute "title" of "ut_header" tag).

What is the problem ??

I just logged in to your site and there are no English pages, so it doesn't look like the Yoga Therapy page has been translated. I suggest first duplicating the page, then edit the English page and click Translate Independently. Once that is done, if the translations are not showing, let me know and I"ll be happy to log back in and take a look.

Yes I know, I aborted my translation and I cleaned things because I immediately saw that I will not be able to translate that text so I aborted.

If I duplicate the page and translate independently, I will not have synchronization anymore between French and English version, isn't it ? It sounds to me less interesting...

Thanks for your help,

R.

The pages will still be linked, it just means the content will be translated. When you duplicate a page first, it copies all custom fields/taxonomies/etc over to the translation. When you click Translate Independently, you can then translate the content.

I clicked to edit the (French) page "Tradition". On the right menu, I clicked on "duplicate" instead of clicking on the (+) sign. It created a copy of that "Tradition" page under the "English" language. Ok. I click on that new English "tradition" page to edit it and I can read at right : "Ce document est une duplication du (de la) Tradition et est conservée par WPML. [ TRADUIRE A PART] WPML ne synchronisera plus ce(tte) page avec le contenu original."
Which means that WPML will not synchronize anymore that page with the original content.
That's what I said... Where am I wrong ?
Sorry for being stupid this way ; it's the first time I use WPML.

Snychronize here simply means that the content will display the same for both pages, regardless of the second language. However, you can click Translate Independently and you will still see on the translated page "THis is a translation of...". So that shows that they are still actually linked, but the content will no longer by synched to the original language.
