I am trying to: Add different images in the product gallery for the product in French (second langauge)

Link to a page where the issue can be seen:
hidden link
hidden link

I expected to see: The images I have choose in the product gallery in French

Instead, I got: The images that are set in the product gallery of the orignal English product

More infos : Everything was working fine a couple of weeks ago. I'm not sure when this happened. Probably during one of recent update.

Before, I was able to create a product in English, to set the featured image and a product gallery, etc. Then I was able to translate the product and to set different images for the featured image and the product gallery. Now, as soon as I save the product in French, the product gallery is overwriten by the images of the original product in english. No problem with the featured image, though.

I've tried many things, but always the same result.

Note that WPML Media translation is actually disabled, too. If I enable it, every old existing products in French are showing the product gallery of the original English product. When I disable it, I see the french product gallery for every existing product, but the problem is present for every new product or as soon as I update an existing product in French.

Thanks.

Hello,
Thank you for contacting WPML support.

I would like to ask you to follow this steps in order to isolate the cause of the issue:
- Back up your site first before making any change, this is for security reasons.
- Deactivate all the plugins that are not related to WPML.
- Switch for a moment to a WordPress default theme like Twenty Seventeen.
- If the issue is gone, activate one by one to see with which one there is an interaction issue.

Could you tell me the result of this steps?

Kind regards,
Carlos

Hi,

Apparently I missed the notification on your reply. Sorry for the delay.

So, I just did some tests and as soon as I disable Woocommerce Multilangual, I can change the images in French again. So the problem seems to be a conflict with WPML and this plugin. but I have absolutly no idea how to resolve it.

Thanks again for your support.

Hi there,
Thank you very much for your feedback.

I would like to request temporary access (wp-admin and FTP) to your site to take better look at the issue. You will find the needed fields for this below the comment area when you log in to leave your next reply. The information you will enter is private which means only you and I can see and have access to it.

Our Debugging Procedures

I will be checking various settings in the backend to see if the issue can be resolved. Although I won't be making changes that affect the live site, it is still good practice to backup the site before providing us access. In the event that we do need to debug the site further, I will duplicate the site and work in a separate, local development environment to avoid affecting the live site.

Looking forward to your answer.
Best regards,
Carlos

Hi there,

I would like to ask you to follow this steps:
Go to WPML -> Settings -> Media translation,
- uncheck "Duplicate featured images for translations" for not duplicating feature images
- uncheck "Duplicate media attachments for translations" for not duplicating gallery images
Go to WPML -> WooCommerce Multilingual -> Select "Go to the native WooCommerce product editing screen"
Go to the native WooCommerce product editing screen of your translations > Change featured and gallery images.

Could you tell me if the issue was solved after the steps above?

Best regards,
Carlos

Hi,

I double checked the settings in the site and you still need to uncheck this same options when editing a product in it's original language (see attached image).

I tested with this product and it seems to be working: hidden link

Carlos

Hi there,

I'm sorry, I made a mistake in the example I provide before. You are correct, the issue persists. I will update aour 2nd tier specialists.

Note: Please add the correct images to the gallery of the 0028 product.

There is another option in order to show different images for the gallery in the secondary language, in this case you will need to translate the images of the gallery in WPML -> Media Translation. This way the images shown in French will be the 'translation' of the images in English.

This other option will work if you keep the same number of images in the gallery for both languages because the images will be 'translated' insted of changed.

Could you try this second alternative and let me know if it solves the issue?

Best regards,
Carlos

Hi,

Thanks. I was aware of the alternative, but the problem is that the manager of the site has added every images of every product manually in both languages. If I activate WPML Media Translation, he will have to set all the translation and check every product. There is 380 products on the site, so that's a huge task.

That's why I prefer to be able to set my image independently on both language, like before. It was working well before a recent update.

Thanks!

Hi there,

Our 2nd tier specialists answered: "This was undocumented "feature" that we don't support, and if it is not working in the way described above - then I don't know if it works at all"

It seems -unfortunately- that for now you need custom programming work which is beyond the scope of our support.

At this point I would suggest you consider contacting one of our certified partners from this link:
http://wpml.org/documentation/support/wpml-contractors/

Before doing so please have a look also here:
http://wpml.org/documentation/support/wpml-contractors/guidelines-for-people-looking-for-consulting-help/

You will get the custom assistance you need to get on with your project.

Best regards,
Carlos

Hi,

Thanks for the help, but which "feature" is causing the problem?

It was working very well before one of the last update. I don't understand how a new "hidden feature" can be unsupported. WooCommerce Multilangual and WPML are supposed to work together.

For now, my only solution will be to activate WPML Media and to recheck all the images and products all over again to made them work. Not cool.

Thanks
