Hi! My site now is on brawo.it and when I need English version I do brawo.com with redirect on brawo.it/en.... I need to invert the logic and I'm worried about waste all.
What I need now
Main site on brawo.com (showed in English).... when user needs to see Italian will do brawo.it and we'll redirect to brawo.com/en

Can you help me in this change?

Hello there,

With two different domain it will be good to have separate domains for each language instead of redirecting .com to .com/en, Also it is not possible to redirect brawo.it to brawo.com/en which requires the of use language directory url format with different domains per language url setting which is not an option with WPML.

I would suggest to use the WPML different domains per language url settings and set brawo.it for Italian and brawo.com for English. Please check our detailed documentation about the DNS settings and how to enable different directory per language settings https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/language-setup/language-url-options/how-to-use-wpml-with-different-domains-per-language/

I hope this helps.

Regards
Raja

I hope below is what is requested
1) English should open in brawo.com
2) Italian should open in brawo.com/it

Correct me if I am wrong, The redirecting part is handled are server level which you might be already aware of.

To achieve this you might need to adjust the following
Secure a backup of your site before you proceed
0) Remove the Existing redirection from brawo.com
1) Change the primary domain of the site from brawo.it to brawo.com
2) Change the Site default language from Italian to English So that when users hit brawo.com it loads the English content. The site default language can be changed from WPML > Languages >Site languages
3) Make sure to use the Directory per language url setting selected in Language url options in "WPML > Languages"
4) After all the setup is done make sure brawo.com/it loads the Italian content, Finally add a redirect rule for the domain brawo.it which should be redirected to brawo.com/it

Please note all the steps related to redirect is not handled by WPML it should be either handled by code or at the server level or similar to the existing redirect.

I hope I made the steps clear, Let me know if anything is unclear.

Raja

Changing the domains and adding redirection requires server access this is not something that we could do from our end, also it is not something related to WPML except changing the default language in step 2 which can be handed from the dashboard, I would request you to check with your hosting provider for the domain related queries.

I have mentioned in my previous reply the site default language can be changed from WPML > Langauge > Site language. Please check step 2

2) Change the Site default language from Italian to English So that when users hit brawo.com it loads the English content. The site default language can be changed from WPML > Languages >Site languages

I have attached a screenshot for more clarity.

Since changing the default language for a site which already has translation might have some drawback, We highly recommend performing the operation after securing a backup of the site.

You can very well change the site default language right now and fix the domains later, but make sure it is done after securing a backup.

Raja
