This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem: When I go to https://www.huddersfieldtextiles.com?lang=ar to check it is working, it comes up in the Arabic language but it shows as a blank page and not the home page. The dropdown for the switcher isn't working either on our home page, however it works when I add the https://www.huddersfieldtextiles.com?lang=ar address. Solution: Everything works fine when changing the language to Arabic: https://www.huddersfieldtextiles.com/about/. All the other pages are not translated yet since all the pages from here https://www.huddersfieldtextiles.com/wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=page still have the plus sign for all the languages. Once you add the translation for your pages, the language switcher will definitely show the language, as it happens for the About page.

I am trying to:
Get the plugin to work.

Link to a page where the issue can be seen:
hidden link

I expected to see:
The dropdown

Instead, I got:
Nothing

The language URL format is set to hidden link as the language per directories won't function. It appears our site is not in the root directory. Is it just a permissions issue to sort this.

However, when I go to hidden link to check it is working, it comes up in the Arabic language but it shows as a blank page and not the home page.

The dropdown for the switcher isnt working either on our home page, however it works when I add the hidden link address.

Also, why do some parts of the site get translated and other parts need to be sent to a paid translator?

Thanks

Hey Rian,

Thank you for reaching out the WPML support!

It seems that when I'm trying to open this page hidden link I get to 404 page. Also, by looking at the language switcher from this page, I can see that you have a lot more languages available on your website but they are not appearing here hidden link. Is there any chance that you could give me access to the dashboard area so I can have a look at the translated content and see why is it not displayed, please?
The next reply is set to be private so you can safely send me the credentials.

Thanks,
Radu

Hey Rian,

I checked the only translation available on your website and I could see that everything works fine when changing the language to Arabic: hidden link. All the other pages are not translated yet since all the pages from here hidden link still have the plus sign for all the languages. Once you add the translation for your pages, the language switcher will definitely show the language, as it happens for the About page.

Thanks,
Radu

Thanks Radu

Ok, I didn't realise we had to do all the translations ourself and that we had to manually do them all. All I would do is look at Google Translate and add them which would take a long time. I think I may be better using and automated plugin.

This plugin was purchased yesterday. Before I cancel, can you tell me if there is a better way to use your plugin.

Thanks

I can now see the translation working well. I guess it's just going to take some time to add all the languages. Thanks

Hey Rian,

The WPML plugin is the tool that adds the functionality for creating the pages in multi-language. However, you, as the administrator of the website, are the one that needs to add the translations. If you need a hand with translating the content, you can use one of the translation services available. Here's an article where you can find some more details about this https://wpml.org/translation-service/.
I'll mark this ticket as resolved now. If you have any other question or need some help with some issue, feel free to open a new ticket and we'll take care of it.

Thanks,
Radu
