I'm using WPML with easy digital downloads, and I've followed all steps in your guide.
But I'm having an issue: cart and checkout (mainly, everything tht comes with the shortcodes) remains in italian even in the english pages. The only way to avoid the problem at the moment is to manually delete the italian .mo file in the folder wp-content/languages/plugin...

hidden link

At the moment you should not see the problem because we have manually removed the .mo file (unfortunately the site is live), but if you recreate it the pages above mentined do not translate in english anymore...

Thank you in advance

I've tried a sort of 'hack', which not really solved the issue, but helped to get the immediate results while the site is online... I've uploaded in "wp-content/languages/plugins" a file called '', but the file doen't actuallyhas any translation (just the original english).
So, it is now clear that this is the problem... the file .mo...

Hi ,

Thank you for contacting the WPML support. We are happy to help you.

Please visit WPML>>Theme and plugins localization, then check which option you have selected for *Select how to translate strings in the theme and plugins*.

Also please confirm you have tried the following steps or not

- Visit "WPML>>Theme and plugins localization".
- Make sure that "Translate by WPML." is active.
- Scroll down to "Strings in the theme" and click on "Scan the theme for strings".
- Scroll down to "Strings in the plugins", select the plugin you want to scan and click on "Scan the selected plugins for strings".
- Once you followed the above steps go under "WPML>>String Translation". All strings available for translation should display in the table you see there.

Please check the following tutorials to learn more about WPML String translation.

I have a request. Please do the following steps after a site backup for the expected performance of your site.

1) Please upgrade your MySQL version to 5.6(if you are not using MariaDB), the minimum required MySQL version for WPML. Check this article for more details --

2) Increase *WP Memory Limit* to *128*(the minimum required memory limit for WPML) or more. Please check the following link for more details

3) Increase *MaxInputVars* of the PHP configuration settings to *5000* or more

With Regards

What is the resolution for this problem?
I have exactly the same problem:
- my default language is French
- I created an English version of the checkout page following the tutorial
But none of the strings contained in Easy Digital Download's .MO file are used. So the checkout page is still in French.
I have tried changed WPML's language settings from EN_US to EN_GB and EN_AU (Easy Digital Downloads has these in its folder) but all strings are still in French.

This user also has the exact same problem and it has not been fixed either:

Hello AD (@alessioD-5).

I'm Itamar from the WPML support team.
You never replied here after @Bigul had answered you and I would like to ask you the following, please.
If removing the Italian .mo file from wp-content/languages/plugin/ folder solves the problem what other issues have you encountered after this removal?
It is not quite clear to me from this thread.

I look forward to your reply!

OK, now I can where the problem is.
The EDD plugin adds those files back to that location after a while.
I've reported this to our compatibility team.
