Not sure if it may be connected: I had unselected "widgets" from string translation registration sometime earlier, because WPML was creating a new one anytime I edited a post. (a problem still under investigation - https://wpml.org/fr/forums/topic/traduction-de-elementor-cree-de-multiples-strings-inutiles/)
May it be connected?

I can see that it works now. I was able to login both sites, but I used this one:

In order to update the WPML and all the other addons do latest versions, but to beta versions, so that we can gain an idea whether any of your issues will be resolved by these versions.

I also installed Duplicator PRO plugin and created packages, so now I have the current state of the site in full backup.

Therefore, may I ask the following - which should be the last step before I escalate this to our translation services specialists - can you find any of the pages and emulate the issue there? Let me know if you have such page and how can I reproduce (I assume that I should do the following:
1) check how translation looks like once it has been received from ICL
2) check how translation looks like ( in translation management) after I modify the original page

It doesn't matter if you "break" it (any of the pages), because we will still have the backup I will then use to escalate the case.

Let me know if you need more information!

Hi Bob,
Thanks for the suggestion. However, I dont know how to reproduce the case, as it happened after I imported ICL translation, and I cant reproduce that easily.
The only way would be to revert to a version of the site I had before importing (and that will be without plugin updates). I can do that, but not right now, as we are using the clone site for another purpose.
Else, I guess we can keep this pending until further occurrence..?

The only way would be to revert to a version of the site I had before importing (and that will be without plugin updates). I can do that, but not right now, as we are using the clone site for another purpose.

It would be great if we could have that one, and then I could make a duplicator package out of it. If this ticket gets closed automatically, you can refer to it and choose me as a preferred supporter, because I am already familiar with the case, as is our team.

Hi Bruno,

I have tried replicate the issue and it is not very easy (because of the dates and exchanges with ICL) but at least I have replicated some issue (another one of the weired things that happened).

1> I restored my clone to an initial version (27 August), where WPML plugins and other stuff had not been updated.

NB: Unfortunately, I don't have one from Sept 11, when I opened the ticket to replicate the exact same issue.

2> I open my e-commerce portfolio / solutions page.
The translation had been done in June in a first job through ICL, without any images but one.
I can open the translation in CTE, and it is fine, but does not show images but one. That is logical.

3> I edit the French original. When I edit the translation in CTE, lots of translations are missing - for the missing images that had not been sent to translation in the first place. That is logical.

4> I send myself the e-commerce page for translation through WPML, so I can have an "original" code from the XLIFF file.

4> I go to ICL jobs, and find the 2nd job related to the e-commerce page. In that 2nd job, I I had asked to translate all images. I open the XLIFF file, and I can check all images are now translated (ex: X2-logistics).
NB: that translation is quite older (16 sept) and I hope there is no change affecting the experiment.

5> I import the ICL XLIFF file into my WPML, after changing the original code to the one from my WPML xliff.

=> I open the translation in CTE, and something is wrong: the images are not translated, but copied from the French version. I can check with X2-Logistics.

6> I do it again: same thing.

NB: in order for images tags to show in the galleries in the front office in the English version, I need to remove "display: none" from the CSS at the bottom of the CSS customized file.

In step 3, I have all images translated, and in step 5, my image translations are fine.
In the meantime I had translated over and over, so it is no wonder it is fine.

I will now revert, again, the clone to the older version, so you can check on your own.
Though I am no 100% sure this experiment will make sense and provide clues.

I've been asked by our 2nd tier, especially based on this:

NB: If I redo the same process with my current site version (with all plugins updated and all translations integrated), I don't have the same result.

That we try with all the latest beta versions. I updated all the plugins on hidden link to the beta versions, as there have been many fixes in those versions.

Can you see if the issue is partially or completely resolved by using these versions?

Hi

I am not sure I redid the steps with exactly the same order (I think I saved the translation in CTE before importing the new file), but I am stuck with a problem still:
When I export ICL translation, change the original code to a new one I get from sending myself a WPML job on the "e-commerce" page, and import the translation, then the image translations are not integrated.

Now I change one setting in WPML string translation: I add "Widgets" to strings to auto register, because I suspect it has sthg to do. I import again - nothing changes, images are wrongly translated.

Hello,
I now got the same problem again on my live website. here is what I did:
- I edited the French page in Elementor (hidden link)
- At the same time in another tab, I opened the translation in CTE to check what was there. I did not edit or save anything there .
- I saved my French original in elementor, and closed the traslation in the other tab.
- back to WP edit screen for the French original, in order to update the translation.
WPML says "translation in progress" and if I do "continue editing and go the the English translation, CTE is at 0% and all image translations are erased.

I feel that would not have happened if I had not edited the translation at the same time (even if I just opened and did not save)

Now when I go to "translations" and translate from there, I also have the same 0%.
And if I "renounce" to translation, and go back to CTE from the French original, I am still with 0%.
On the other hand, in the front office, my image translations are OK! But I can't edit the translations without having to re-translate all images.
It is extremely frustrating.

I have just tried replicate the issue with another page. As soon as I open the CTE and the edit (oor elementor) screen at the same time, even if I don't edit or save anoything, my translation status goes to the little gear icon, and I lose my translations, without being able to retrieve them 🙁
