Hi!

I have successfuly translated from French to English the strings in the header.

I followed the same procedure for strings in the footer (see image) but translations are not showing.

Example here: hidden link

What am I missing?

Thanks for your help.

Hi,

Thank you for contacting WPML support!

Before we investigate this issue further, could you make sure your server conforms to our minimum requirements?
https://wpml.org/home/minimum-requirements/

Based on provided debug information, I can see the following - WP Memory Limit: 40M.

Specifically, could you set WP Memory limit to at least 256MB and then let me know if this fixed your issue?
https://codex.wordpress.org/Editing_wp-config.php#Increasing_memory_allocated_to_PHP

If unsure on how to set this, you can consult your host/server admin to do this. After you increase this value, you can confirm it by checking on WPML -> Support by finding the “Memory limit” value.

After this, would you be willing to provide me with temporary WordPress admin username so I could investigate the issue directly? I have marked your next reply private so you can safely add this information.

https://wpml.org/purchase/support-policy/privacy-and-security-when-providing-debug-information-for-support/

Please make a full backup of your site before sharing this info!

You can use plugins such as UpdraftPlus WordPress Backup Plugin (https://wordpress.org/plugins/updraftplus/) or ask your host to perform a site backup.

Bruno Kos

Hi,

I'm not entirely sure what's behind this, but I'm not also sure how these header and footer elements are actually set. When I open the homepage for example and if I click to edit the footer, it takes me here.

hidden link

However, the Elementor template with the same ID is not listed here:
hidden link

Footer ID here has hidden link, so its ID is 1704, so I'm not sure if this is the same element in fact.

Also, these elements on the elementor library page seem to be set as "Page" and not as footer or header. Can you try creating another footer element by following the instructions here:
https://wpml.org/errata/elementor-global-templates-translation-are-not-working/

So setting this element as a Footer and not Page when it comes to choosing a element type. So the instructions will be something like:

""""""""""""""""""""
First, make sure you that the translation of your Elementor global template has the same type (footer, header… ) than the original one. If this is not the case, please follow these instructions to correctly translate your templates:

Go to the Elementor -> My Templates page.
Click the Add New button.
Select “Footer”, for example.
Create a template in the original language.
Go to the Elementor Edit Page, choose “Display Conditions” and select “Entire site“, then publish it.
Duplicate your Global template from the original language using WPML.
Translate it.
""""""""""""""""""""

Or: https://wpml.org/2018/07/wpml-4-0-5-with-support-for-elementor-templates-and-global-widgets/

Hi Bruno,

I'm stuck.

Instructions are not valid because the only two types available are "Page" and "Section", there is no "Footer" type listed.

Also for the other reference, please note that the site does not use Elementor Pro or Global Widgets.

Thanks for your help.

Hi,

Can you tell me then where exactly do you edit those templates then?
hidden link

If I'm not mistaken, this is a global element (it does look like one when you edit either the original page or translation), but if it's not a elementor template, what is it then? 🙂 I'm not very clear on what this is exactly and if these Elementor templates are not translated "by the book", then we might stumble upon issues like this one because it uses its own dynamic data and not custom fields like some other plugins, causing us additional issues along the way.

As a possible workaround - depending on the number of pages you plan to have on the website - perhaps you could create one main template for the footer and import that template in each new page you create and edit it separately.

Hi Bruno,

I'm getting nervous here, time is running out and we're far from a solution.

To answer your questions:

1- I did not translate templates, that didn't work, so I reverted to translating strings.

2- The instructions for WPML and Elementor don't work or are for the Pro version with Global Widgets that I don't use:
https://wpml.org/2018/07/wpml-4-0-5-with-support-for-elementor-templates-and-global-widgets/

3- I tried to translate the template for the footer. Once translated nothing happens. I tried to assign the template to a page but then the footer changes for all pages of the site.

Please help!

Thanks.

Hi,

Could you please answer on where exactly do I need to go to see those templates? Please see this question of mine:

"I'm not entirely sure what's behind this, but I'm not also sure how these header and footer elements are actually set. When I open the homepage for example and if I click to edit the footer, it takes me here.

I am still not sure where exactly are you editing footer and header.

Same as you did, when I click on the Footer it opens up a new window to edit the footer which is the same footer for all pages.

So I don't know where it is, I just know how to get there like you did.

Hi,

So I don't know where it is, I just know how to get there like you did.

But how did you add it then in the first place? I'm having difficulty figuring out how it is added - otherwise I would suggest we create the same option in our clean sandbox installation, possibly excluding any compatibility issues.

It's a template from Zemez so it was prebuilt, was already there when I opened pages.

Can you test in your clean sandbox installation?

Thanks.

I wouldn't know where to start...

Can't you just copy the site?

Also... it won't allow me to install the theme again (copy protection).

Hi,

Can't you just copy the site?

For the compatibility testing, we need to have a clean install. Any chance you can perhaps upload the theme files into service such as dropbox and then send me the link so that I can download and try to install myself?

I have marked your next reply as private so you can put this info inside.

Hi,

I was able to install the theme and all the required plugins, have a look.

https://wpml.org/forums/topic/elementor-footer-string-translation/#post-3977257

Can you complete the initial WPML configuration wizard and create one page using header and footer in the same way you used it on your website and try translating them the same way ( using string translation as you did on your site)?

Don't import demo content - let us do it anew here. Let me know how it goes or if you need any further assistance at this point.

Bruno Kos
