Hi there,

I know that using the Automatically Adjust IDs (enabling it), the theme can be translated better. However, I do NOT know if my theme has hard-coded IDs and/or if I should enable this function. My wordpress site is rather slow (even using W3 Total Cache and other tools) and I would like to limit database access if possible. So, is there someone in your team who could maybe have a look at my theme and tell me whether to leave this option enabled or if I could turn it off.
thanks, marc

Thank you for contacting WPML support, I will be delighted to assist with this issue today!

Can you please provide you WPML Debug information in the debug field below? http://wpml.org/faq/provide-debug-information-faster-support/

The best resource as to your theme would be the theme author. Most themes use hardcoded links and some authors may add WPML compatibility if asked. A great resource to send to the author is: https://wpml.org/documentation/support/creating-multilingual-wordpress-themes/hard-coded-theme-links/

If you have development experience, it isn't too difficult to add WPML support to hardcoded links.
We have an excellent article here about all WPML functions: https://wpml.org/documentation/support/wpml-coding-api/

Also again, this is specific to hardcoded links:
https://wpml.org/documentation/support/creating-multilingual-wordpress-themes/hard-coded-theme-links/

However if you need customization work, we have a list of WPML certified contractors here: http://wpml.org/documentation/support/wpml-contractors/

Yes, AutoIDs cause more DB lookups which is why icl_object_id is preferred for busy sites however you may be able to get more performance out of other places to make up for it if infeasible to convert the theme: https://wpml.org/2012/01/can-your-site-run-faster/

I look forward to your response!
