Background of the issue:
I am trying to install WPML on my WordPress site. The issue occurred when I attempted to activate the plugin.

Symptoms:
I received an error message: 'Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.' The specific error is: 'Fatal error: Cannot redeclare icl_get_home_url() (previously declared in /web/htdocs/www.elenafoulkes.it/home/wp-content/plugins/polylang/modules/wpml/wpml-legacy-api.php:20) in /web/htdocs/www.elenafoulkes.it/home/wp-content/plugins/sitepress-multilingual-cms/inc/template-functions.php on line 57.'

Questions:
How can I resolve the fatal error when activating WPML?
Is there a conflict between WPML and another plugin?

Hi,

Thank you for contacting WPML Support and for sharing error details. We have another client who had a similar issue and was able to fix it by following the below thread: https://wpml.org/forums/topic/error-when-installing-wmpl/#post-16706837

Please let me know if this resolves your issue or if you need further assistance with this issue.

Thank you

Hi, thank you, that helped. There was a conflict with Polylang, I removed it. I have resolved that, and a number of other issues, e.g. I didn't have enough memory in WP to run WPML, I have since resolved that issue. And it still doesn't work. I've disinstalled it, cleared the cache, re-installed it, it's in my list of plugins as "active" but it isn't appearing in my WP toolbar. Please help me!

Now I've managed to install it, it's appearing in my WP toolbar and list of plugins. But I still can't get it to work: whatever I set on the menu language switcher, I either see nothing on my homepage menu or the British flag. I cannot access the Italian pages. (please see attached images). Please help me! Thank you for your assistance. Hope you're having a good day. Elena

Glad to hear you have managed to install/activate the WPML plugins now.

For the “Unable to access the Italian pages” problem, it’s a different issue and will be handled separately as per our support policy. I've created a new ticket for this at: https://wpml.org/forums/topic/i-cannot-access-the-italian-pages/

If the plugin activation issue is solved, please mark this ticket as resolved and we will continue working on the above ticket for it.

Thank you for your cooperation

Hello Good morning. My issue is still not resolved, I think WPML is too complicated for me to use. Could you please tell me who I need to contact for a refund?
Thank you and have a great day,
Elena

I’m really sorry to hear about your experience and completely understand your decision.

Since your purchase was just 2 days ago and WPML offers a 30-day refund policy, would you be open to giving us one last chance to help set things up properly on your site? One of my colleagues is already following up on the issue with the Italian pages here: https://wpml.org/forums/topic/i-cannot-access-the-italian-pages/

If you’d still prefer to go ahead with the refund, you can submit your request here: https://wpml.org/purchase/refunds/ our accounts team will process it as per our policy.

Thank you for your patience, and I wish you all the best with your project moving forward.
