By checking for updates, WordPress gave some technical issue, recorded in the error.log. I also noted some other errors with WPML and JetEngine combination, so I've made a pastbin for you to see if anything strange is happening:

Hello,

Welcome to the WPML support forum. I will do my best to help you to resolve these issues.

This may be a compatibility issue. Just make sure the following error has happened just after upgrading to WPML 4.2.8?

PHP Fatal error: Uncaught Error: Call to a member function get_object_id() on null in /***********/wp-content/plugins/jet-engine/includes/compatibility/packages/wpml.php:29

Are you facing any other compatibility issues between WPML and JetEngine?

For your kind information, *JetEngine* plugin is not listed on the WPML compatibility list for the Plugins - https://wpml.org/documentation/plugins-compatibility. It does not mean that this plugin is not compatible with WPML, but our compatibility team has not tested it yet.
