We have a development site and a production site. We are doing the string translations in the dev environment, as we prepare the production site for go-live. Is there a way to export the "translation complete" string translation strings so that they can be imported into production once we are ready to do so? I did search your site for tickets on this topic, but they are either not a match or quite a bit in the past, so I wanted to see if any recent WPML updates / enhancements have addressed the string translation export / import ability.

Thank you.

Hello Thomas,

thanks for contacting and sorry for the delays.

WPML has the option to export the translations:

You can export the translated strings in a .po file from String Translation. For this you can go to WPML > String Translation and select at the bottom of the page in the metabox "Import/export .po" a text-domain to and a language to generate an export .po file for that.

In the production environment you then can import the .po file for that language and that text-domain (for the theme or plugin) and upload it to string translation.

On the other hand, posts, pages and taxonomies work in a different way. For this contents, you have a original and its translation. For this, you should export both with a plugin like WP All Export and them import them with another extension as WP All Import.

The following tutorials will explain you in detail how to perform this procedure:

Kind regards,
