Hello, I have an issue with the front page.

if you go to this site you will see the front page consisting of two segments. Each segment is a page. Now, on the German version only the top segment shows the translation while the second one is still in English. The page that contains the translation is: hidden link. I tried to enter the entire URL in WPML String Translation but it did not work. What do I have to do?

Hello,

Thank you for contacting WPML Support. I would like to request temporary access (wp-admin and FTP) to your site to take better look at the issue. You will find the needed fields for this below the comment area when you log in to leave your next reply. The information you will enter is private which means only you and I can see and have access to it.

Our Debugging Procedures

I will be checking various settings in the backend to see if the issue can be resolved. Although I won't be making changes that affect the live site, it is still good practice to backup the site before providing us access. In the event that we do need to debug the site further, I will duplicate the site and work in a separate, local development environment to avoid affecting the live site.

Privacy and Security Policy

We have strict policies regarding privacy and access to your information. Please see:
https://wpml.org/purchase/support-policy/privacy-and-security-when-providing-debug-information-for-support/

**IMPORTANT**

- Please make a backup of site files and database before providing us access.
- If you do not see the wp-admin/FTP fields this means your post & website login details will be made PUBLIC. DO NOT post your website details unless you see the required wp-admin/FTP fields. If you do not, please ask me to enable the private box. The private box looks like this: hidden link

Please, let me know if you need any additional details. Have a nice day.

Hello,

Thank you for the updates. I took a closer look in your website and noticed there wasn't a valid translation for the customizer field where you set a page to appear in the different sections of your homepage, here is what I tried:

1 - In your WordPress Dashboard > WPML > String Translation > Translate texts in admin screens I checked the the 'vega_wp_frontpage_cta_dark_content' key to be translated under the text domain 'theme_mods_vega'.

2 - In the String Translation screen from your WordPress Dashboard > WPML I chose the 'admin_texts_theme_mods_vega' text domain from the dropdown list and then entered the ID of the translated page for the '[theme_mods_vega]vega_wp_frontpage_cta_dark_content' field, which is a different ID from the original english page. Now it works as it should.

You can learn all the details of this approach in the resources below:

https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/string-translation/
https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/translating-theme-options/

Please, let me know if you need any additional clarifications regarding the steps above. Have a nice day.

Thank you very much. It really works. I could not figure out from your guide what this field is called. I see that the original string has a number: 543 and for the German version you used 836.

How did you find this number?
Can I use the same for the productive environment?
Did you do something else I have to take care of?

I made a sceen shot but your interface would not let me upload it.

Thanks for your explanation and of course that you fixed the issue.

Hello Brigitte,

Thank you for the updates. Regarding your questions:

1 - "I could not figure out from your guide what this field is called"

You find it in your WordPress Dashboard > WPML > String Translation > Translate texts in admin screens exactly as this guide explains: https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/translating-theme-options/. Basically this is how you can find any customizer or theme options field in your theme that you need to translate or provide a different content according the language.

2 - "How did you find this number?"

You can find it if you click to edit a page from your WordPress Dashboard > Pages you will notice the page ID will appear in the browser address bar, another option is just to roll the mouse over the edit page link from yout WordPress Dashboard > Pages and look for the page ID in the browser status bar. You can find the full details regarding these approaches at: hidden link.

3 - "Can I use the same for the productive environment?"

In most cases the IDs of posts and pages will be changed in different environment, so, in this case, probably you will need to find these IDs again and update the String Translations fields accordingly.

4 - "Did you do something else I have to take care of?"

These were all the steps I took to fix your issue, you should follow these instructions for any similar issue.

Hope it brings some more clarifications to your questions. Have a nice day.
