Hello WPML,
We have found that our home page settings are changing when we delete a translation page that belongs to the home page, it reset the settings of the homepage to be: “Your latest posts”.

(See attached screenshot)

Why is this happening and how can we prevent this?

Can you please elaborate a bit on this "when we delete a translation page that belongs to the home page".

I would need to understand better what you are exactly deleting and what is the name of the page on your site that you are referring to?

Also, I would like to request temporary access (wp-admin and FTP) to your site to take a better look at the issue. You will find the needed fields for this below the comment area when you log in to leave your next reply. The information you will enter is private which means only you and I can see and have access to it.

Our Debugging Procedures

I will be checking various settings in the backend to see if the issue can be resolved. Although I won't be making changes that affect the live site, it is still good practice to backup the site before providing us access. In the event that we do need to debug the site further, I will duplicate the site and work in a separate, local development environment to avoid affecting the live site.

1. Can you please let me know the name of the page you are referring to and what language version have you tried to delete that caused this (I see that you have multiple languages set up)?

2. My IP is dynamic so it constantly changes. Can you please enable access from Romania?

Please let me know.

I will enable the private fields once again.

Hi and thank you for the update.

I was trying to visit the 2 links you shared (the link of the page you deletes the translation in Swedish and the log in page) but I get the same errors for both pages and I am not able to log in.

Can you please check on that?

I am also attaching 2 screenshots with each link so that you can see the error.

Please let me know what you can find about this.

I can now confirm that I was able to log in.

Can you please create a full site back up and then go here (hidden link) and update all the plugins to the latest version?

Also, when I go here (hidden link), it seems that there is an issue with your WPML site key and that the WPML plugins are not on the latest update version so can you please click unregister, then generate a new key for this site from your WPML.org panel and then update the WPML plugins, too?

After that, can you please test and see if the issue is still happening?

Please let me know.

It is important to always be on the latest versions available, otherwise, there are bigger risks of encountering incompatibility issues or site security vulnerabilities.

1. I have full backup
2. I have updated all WPML plugins
3. I fixed the site key issue

Yes, I will spend some more time on the site and I will get back to you as soon as I have more information on this.

In case I would need to duplicate the current site on a staging environment, can you please let me know if that would be ok with you? I would need your written confirmation.

After we find the issue, I will delete the local site.

Hi.

Sure.

The thing is the difference we have when we are duplicating a site is that we can duplicate it on our local or on our testing servers, so that is important as sometimes the issue might be caused by different server configuration issues.

I will then start testing things on the server you duplicated the site and hopefully, we don't get to a point where we suspect the server to be the reason.

I will keep you updated as soon as I have more feedback on this matter.

I got in touch with our developers and it seems that this is not considered a bug, but in fact, it is considered as an expected behavior at the moment.
