This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
The client is using the Robo Gallery plugin and has issues with media titles not translating to the selected language, despite running a full site translation and translating individual media items.
Solution:
1. Go to WPML->Settings->Media Translations.
2. Disable 'Automatically detect best options for translating image texts (alt, caption, title)'.
3. Click on 'Setup Manually'.
4. Enable 'Translate Media Library texts (alt, caption, title) when translating content'.
5. Create a dummy post, add a gallery including all images from a gallery that's not translated.
6. Publish the post and auto-translate this post; the media files should translate as well.
7. Check on the front-end if the gallery shows the translations.
If this solution does not resolve your issue or seems outdated, we recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. Thanks Shekhar,
sorry but it didn't work; Moreover - all the galleries were empty in English.
So I tried to do a copy text process, and it copied everything - in Hebrew to the English side...
I wish it would translate automatically.

BTW the video didn't give me permission to watch it, so if you could load it to youtube, or send via jumbomail or something like that.

BTW if copying all the Hebrew texts to the English "translation" is troublesome I can restore the last backup if this helps. That is, if it is stored on my side and not yours.

Hello Shekhar,

It still doesn't work. The Hebrew captions are copied as is - in Hebrew - to the English translation. The title is badly copied as the original title, i.e. the file name, although I changed the title, it didn't copy it. see attached image.

I noticed in the video that you entered English captions, they wouldn't translate so you modified them to have EN at the end.
I've uploaded a few more pictures to the sandbox so you can test with real Hebrew.
I changed one of them (the navy ship) manually and it works. I just wish the rest will be AUTOMATICALLY TRANSLATED. This is the issue, Since I have over 1300 pictures names to translate. Do I really need to do them all manually???

Hello there,

Automatic translations is not enabled on the sandbox site so I manually showed it by translating, you can try the same on your live site and it should translate it automatically. There is translate automatically button at the top of the editor too, you can use that too.

Can you try it and let me know if it helps.

Thanks

Hi Shekhar,
I tried (as I understood it) but it didn't translate automatically in my site; just copied the Hebrew text AS IS to the English side. I restored the backup afterwards.

I can't find the translate automatically button you mentioned, and I'm not sure which editor are you referring to? It's not in the media translation editor (image 1) or page (image 2).
The auto translate is on (image 3).

A video and/or screenshots here would help.
You also have access to my site (see earlier in conversation) and can try to make it happen, I have a backup if needed to.
I changed the dashboard to English for you.

Thanks

Hello there,

You will need to add the images to a dummy post and send that post to translations, you can check the previous video I provided to see the editor.

Let me know if this is clear.

Thanks

Hello Shekhar,
I got partial results.
I've created a dummy page - pan.pics/newdummy - no elementor, no Robo Gallery, plain wordpress gallery.
I flipped the switches at the settings as instructed, only with "new content", and added a new gallery to the dummy page, and it worked!

Then I added the boxes with existing content, started the process, and I got the same thing as before - all the captions were copied AS IS with Hebrew, except for the ones already translated.
You can see an example at pan.pics/en/alex

Do I need to add 1300 pictures to the dummy page gallery in order to translate them???

One more thing, I got this message on the dashboard (see image).
Should I click enable?
Isn't that the thing I disabled earlier?

Hello there,

Do I need to add 1300 pictures to the dummy page gallery in order to translate them???

Yes, this is a workaround to translate the images.

Regarding the banner, you can ignore it, or enable it after the gallery images are translated.

Thanks

Done it all and it worked, 99.9%...
I just found out a weird bug, at one of the batches (probably a big one, over 100 photos), the translations of one picture hopped to the previous one. See attached.
It's only a dozen of photos so I can fix it manually, just wanted you to know of the bug, and if there is a workaround. see image 1.

Also I found out that I need to keep the pages with the dummy galleries in case I want to change a caption of a media some time in the future.

And I found out that flipping back the "recommended" switch causes to media not to translate (not surprisingly...) so I flipped it back to off and ran the process again for all.

I tried to add a new picture, and found out that I need to add it to a dummy gallery, again.
The file name was copied to the title and DID NOT TRANSLATE. see image 2.

This is all VERY cumbersome, annoying and frustrating.
What should I do for future pictures to be added to a gallery???

Hello there,

So the titles are swapped when translating automatically? Can you provide me the link to dummy post where this issue happened.

You will need to follow the same steps for new images too.

Thanks

The bug of replacing was in a gallery I deleted, then created the gallery again and it fixed some but not all of the misplaced translations.
It is in: hidden link (previously called dummypage)
English at: hidden link

I believe it was job id 174609754 because it had the most words, and notice later 174613354 with zero words which I think fixed it.

I don't need a fix, it's very few photos so I'll handle it myself, just send a note to QA to try and recreate this bug with large galleries, a bit over 100 photos.

---

I managed to get the automatic translation also for new media eventurally so I was just about to close this case as resolved. And then I have thought of a workaround that may fix this very annoying process:
The Robo Gallery plugin actually creates pages for the gallery. For example:
hidden link

or if you like in the sandbox:
hidden link

However they are not translated. Perhaps there's a tweak somewhere to fix this without a dummy gallery, just use the robo gallery itself?

Hello there,

As Itamar mentioned earlier, the images are added as custom fields with IDs, so it isn’t possible to include them directly in the editor.

I’ll pass along your image testing issue so it can be included in our team’s testing.

Thanks

Oh well. Let me know when WPML resolves this bug and meta texts for images could be translated without such a fuss.
