Thank you for sharing the Duplicator package.

I’ve run some tests locally and here’s what I found:

- I’m able to add languages without encountering any 503 errors. It does take a bit of time, but nothing excessive.
- When WooCommerce is deactivated, the process is noticeably faster. This is expected, as WPML needs to download all WooCommerce-related translations during language setup.
- If you do encounter a 503 error, it could be related to server resource limitations (such as memory or execution time).
- As a workaround, you can temporarily deactivate WooCommerce, add the new language, and then reactivate it afterwards.

And can you ellaborate on what you mean with "a bit of time"? I tried to deactivate WooCommerce as well, it still takes ages, and in the end it still fails. I still can't create the language.

For me it is taking 1-2 min no more. It seems related to server resources.

Then what happens? Does the page reload with the new custom language added?

You're right, there is obviously something wrong with my environment. But can you share your settings,? Because I've been replicating that same operation for weeks, on multiple environments, and still fail on any of them.
I will be away for 10 days. Can you please make the necessary so that this ticket is not close until next week?

If you add a normal language, do you get the error?

Please let me the know or share a screenshot of the custom language you are trying to add.

If so, can you please share your setup? Because I've been replicating the same operation for weeks, on different environments and it still fails.
I have freed the database I provided from tables related to the plugins I removed for troubleshooting, so I doubt it has an impact. And I get no alerts about my environment missing anything or being wrong regarding wpml.

By the way, I'll be away for the next 10 days, so can you keep this ticket open until I m back?

Hi Paola,

I had a look at your record. That was surprizing since it wasn't the results I could notice.

So, I tested the language creation process again. The page reloaded... and I noticed a message after the page reloads: "The Language code already exists".

Since you didn't try to create the same language as I did, I tried with something else. And it turns out, that this message comes up only when the new language's name is "Brazil". It won't occur with "Czech" (which is a native language, same as Brazil), which probably means the issue is limited to the Brazil case.
Of course, I checked that I didn't already have the Brazil language activated, neither native nor custom.

I assume this means that this message occurs because a previous attempt to create a Brazil language failed.
I also tried with WooCommerce, and noticed that the creation process was inded, twice as long when WooCommerce is activated.

nb: I tested the langage creation, after reuploading the database to its initial state (in case the number of languages make things even slower...).

1. Can you please test the language creation process with the name Brazil (br_PT / bt-pt - that's what I'm trying to create), and confirm you get the same error message?
2. Let me know how this language can be properly cleaned?
3. If the language creation still takes more minutes, even with WooCommerce deactivated, that still blocking for us...

Finally, I thought you would run these tests with the files I provided you with. Anyway, obviously, the mail-config.php has nothing to do with our issue.

Hi there!

This is because we have already a language with that code.

Please go to WPML --> Languages --> Add language and select Portuguese Brazil from there.

Hi,
Indeed, I didn't notice that entry from the standard language list!
So I tried the same from our staging env, which is also behind Cloudfront and notices, right before the page reloaded, the following message:

Right after, the page reloaded with the new language.

What this message "Error: data not saved" means?

Now an other issue: if I edit the page, and set other language namies for the new language... the request will fail, with a server error. Now if I reload the page, the modification will be visible, but still: the request obviously didn't end as expected.

I was able to add it without problems as you can see in this video: hidden link

What you can do is to disable WooCommerce then add the language.
