I just installed WMPL and after installation I went to settings, media settings and clicked start after that over 51k images appeared in my library.

I need all the duplicates gone, its fine if each image needs to be duplicated once for each language but 51 thousands duplicates can't be right.

Hello,

This is actually expected, but those are not physical files.

WPML should only create duplicated database entries for the original media on order to translate the image meta data.

Additional media will only be generated on the server, if you upload alternative media on WPML Media Translation, for example if you use different images or attachement files in different languages.

Best regards
Andreas

Hello Andreas, thanks for your answer.
My website had a total of maybe 20 images and now after running wpml there are 51k.

I mean I can't even find my images when I want to select them as there are around 2500 pages with thousands of duplicates of the same image.

Could you please double check?

Regards

Melvin

Hello,

At this point I will need to know which plugin might have been caused this issue and try to recreate it afterwards on a test-site.

Possibly the issue might be related to Cornershop "Media Deduper" but I need to test this first.

I would like to request temporary access (wp-admin and FTP) to your site to take a better look at the issue. It would be better for a testing site where the issue is replicated.

You will find the needed fields for this below the comment area when you log in to leave your next reply. The information you will enter is private which means only you and I can see and have access to it.

I'll need to replicate your site locally. For this, I’ll need to temporarily install a plugin called “All In One WP Migration” on your site. This will allow me to create a copy of your site and your content. Once the problem is resolved I will delete the local site. Let me know if this is ok with you.

IMPORTANT

Please make a backup of site files and database before providing us access.
If you do not see the wp-admin/FTP fields this means your post & website login details will be made PUBLIC. DO NOT post your website details unless you see the required wp-admin/FTP fields. If you do not, please ask me to enable the private box. The private box looks like this:
