Tell us what you are trying to do?
Editor will not let me save as I have not used all formatting markers. But in my German translation I do not need all of the same content in this section. SO I cannot use all the formatting markers I had in my English content.

This translation is NOT LIVE. So asking me for the link to the site is largely a waste of time.

Is there any documentation that you are following?

Is there a similar example that we can see?

1.- This is the way ATE works in order to keep the same structure in the translated information. In this particular case I would recommend you to add dummy links or switch to the Classic Translation Editor.
