Background of the issue:
I want to change the text to say something different in the original language (English) for a string on my site hidden link. I found the string 'Browse the list' that I want to change.
Symptoms:
I can't find where to change the English text for a string I found in 'String Translation'. What do I click? Where do I go to change it to "Review and Submit the Quote List"
Questions:
How do I change the English text for a string found in 'String Translation'?
Following these steps, you can change the source language of the current string you want to change the text for to a different language you don't have set up on the site yet, and then you will have the option to add a different string for your default language.
I'm sorry. I still don't understand. I found this documentation but it sounds like something different than what I want to accomplish. In the documentation it says, "If you use a theme or plugin that was coded in a language other than English, you may notice that the source language in the String Translation page is incorrect." This is not the case. The theme was originally coded in the source language English. It also says, "You can also change the language of entire contexts. This is useful when you get a theme or a plugin, that’s coded in a language other than English." The theme and plugin is coded in English (the source language). I just don't like one string they used. It isn't clear. I would like to reword the English to make more sense and then after the English makes more sense, I'll get the translations for the other languages. I know I can add a plugin for this one purpose, to change strings in themes or plugins, but if I can do it in WPML I don't want to add another plugin or break WPML with another plugin. Can you please give me exact steps instead of sending me to documentation that isn't clear?
this is what I see when I search for the string I want to change. I can see the links for editing the additional languages. However, I want to change the words used in English. I don't want it to say "Browse the list". Where can I change that?
Hi there, and thank you for the attached screenshot.
So, all you need to do is to:
1. Check the checkboxes on the left for the strings that you want to change the wording for
2. Scroll down the page a bit, and you will find a button allowing you to change that string's default language. That button will allow you to change the string's source language so it won't be English-set anymore. Select a language you have NOT set up on your site yet, like "Romanian" or "Bulgarian."
3. After you do that, the page will refresh in a few seconds, and you will see a new + icon on the right side with a new table column where, at the top, you will have the English flag. Click the + icon and add the wording you want to use for English.
I hope my instructions were a bit clearer this time 🙂
If you want, you can create a full website backup and then share the site credentials in the private fields I enabled for your next reply if you want me to do it for you.
Just please confirm the phrase I should use for English: is this the correct one "Review and Submit the Quote List"?
