Background of the issue:
I used the automatically translate for most of the sections in my WooCommerce store. Today, I found that most of the things I translated yesterday had the 'needs to be updated' icon.

Symptoms:
When I translated again, I was being charged for that.

Questions:
Why do the translations need to be updated so soon?
Why am I being charged again for translations I already did?

Hello There,
Thanks for contacting WPML Support.

The translation update notice will only appear if you've made changes to the default post or template. If no changes have been made, the notice shouldn't be triggered. Additionally, while updating, credits will only be charged for the new text added to the section template.

Could you please check and confirm that no changes have been made to the default section template?

If not, please share the link to the page along with a screenshot of the section displaying the translation update notice. I will review it and let you know the next steps.

Looking forward to your response and we are always here to help.

Best regards,
Prosenjit

Hello There.
Thank you for the update.

The icon highlighted in the screenshot indicates that the page is fully translated. When you see it under the language flag, you can be confident that the translation is saved and displayed correctly. If you make changes to the default content, an update icon will appear. For now, everything seems fine. However, if you're experiencing any issues even after the translation, could you provide more details? Sharing steps to replicate the issue, a video, or screenshots would be really helpful. I'll review the information and assist you further.

Regarding the other issue you mentioned with the Header and Footer, I understand and am happy to assist. However, to maintain clarity and organization, we are required to address one issue per thread. Since this is a separate matter from the main issue in this ticket, I’ve created a new ticket specifically for the Header and Footer issue. You’ll receive a response to that ticket shortly.

Looking forward to your response and we are always here to help.

Best regards,
Prosenjit

Hi,

Thanks alot for your assistance. So i do understand that the page shows the translated icon. However, after i had translated the first time, i woke up the next morning and seen the update icon on everything that was translated the day before, so i updated everything again and i am being charged for it eventhough no content update was made to these pages!

Secondly, does the page appear translated according to visitors IP ADDRESS or they need to choose the language?

Thirdly, the different languages are placed at the bottom of the page with white backgrounds. Am i able to change this setting? E.g different background color, place it on top of page instead of bottom?

Thanks,

Hello There,
I hope you're doing well. Sorry for the delay in responding due to the weekend.

The update icon should appear only when you modify the default content; otherwise, it shouldn't be visible. Could you please ensure that you saved the translation before exiting the editor? If you have done so and still encounter the issue, kindly provide the link to the specific page where you're experiencing the problem. I will check and advise you on what to do next.

Regarding your question about displaying translations based on the visitor's IP address: WPML can only display translations based on the language selected by the visitor or the language set in their browser. This feature is called Browser Language Redirect. For more details, please check this link: https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/language-setup/automatic-redirect-based-on-browser-language/.

If you want to redirect visitors based on their IP address, you might consider using a third-party plugin compatible with WPML, such as WPML Redirect Based on IP Country.

Regarding your question about the footer language switcher: You can adjust its style to suit your preferences. Please go to "WPML > Languages" and scroll down to the "Footer Language Switcher" section. Click on the pencil icon to edit it, and in the popup, you'll see several styling elements. Adjust the style as needed.

Regarding the footer block translation issue: I have created a separate ticket for you. Please share any updates related to the footer block in that ticket, and I'll be happy to assist you there.

If you have any other questions or need further assistance, feel free to let me know. I will be happy to help.

Best regards,
Prosenjit

Hello There,
Thank you for the update.

As I mentioned in my last message, I've created a new ticket for the footer issue. To keep things organized, it’s best to discuss the footer problem in that ticket. However, I'm including a possible solution for the footer issue here as well. If you need further assistance or have any updates regarding the footer, please share them in the other ticket to help us maintain clarity in our conversation.

Upon reviewing the theme documentation, I found that the footer block needs to be selected in the theme settings. To see the footer block translated, we need to do some additional configuration. Please follow these steps:

1. Go to the footer block and copy the IDs of both the default and translated blocks. When you open the ID in the editor, you'll see it in the URL bar. Make sure to copy both IDs.
2. Navigate to "WPML > String Translation" and click on "Translate link in Admin Screen" at the bottom.
3. Once the admin screen loads, enter the ID of the default template in the search box. If you find any entry containing the default ID, select it and add it to the string translation.
4. Return to the string translation and translate the ID. Click the "+" icon under the language flag, enter the default ID as the translation, and click outside the box. This will ensure the ID is translated, and hopefully, the template will display correctly on the frontend.

Please give it a try and let me know how it goes. If you need further assistance or clarification, please let me know. I will be happy to help.

Best regards,
Prosenjit

Hello Again,

I had followed the steps and got stick on step 3.(Once the admin screen loads, enter the ID of the default template in the search box. If you find any entry containing the default ID, select it and add it to the string translation).

I had found the entry but couldnt select it because its locked!

i tried to troubleshoot it by looking at available threads on the wpml forum but still stuck on it.

Kindly recommend how to move forward with this!

thanks,

Hi There,
Thank you for the update.

The lock icon means that the string is already registered for translation. Now, go to WPML > String Translation and search for the ID. If it appears in the results, add the ID of the translated footer block.

Ensure the source language for the default ID matches the main language of your site. If it’s not set correctly, you can update it by following the instructions provided in this guide: https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/string-translation/how-to-change-the-source-language-of-strings/

I hope it helps. Feel free to let me know if you have any other questions or need clarification. I will be happy to help.

Best regards,
Prosenjit

Hello There,
Thank you for the update.

The reason the ID needs to be translated is to ensure that the correct template is loaded for each language. By translating the ID, we are specifying which template should be used in the other languages.

The reason you’re seeing "Waiting for translator" is because the strings have been sent to a translator for translation. You can now go to "WPML > Translations" to take and translate the string, or you can cancel the string translation jobs by clicking the "Trash" icon from the WPML > Translation Management > Jobs tab(Strings should be marked as "string").

After canceling the translation job, you'll see the "+" icon, allowing you to add the translation in String Translation. It’s recommended to cancel the jobs and translate the ID directly from String Translation for a smoother process.

Please let me know how it goes. I will be happy to help if you need further assistance in this matter.

Best regards,
Prosenjit
