Hi, I can duplicate a discplayer using WPML Translation management but it does not duplicate to Yoast's canonical url field. When I edit this manually, links to media files are lost in the translation (where already made) or become impossible to duplicate or implement in any way, as far as I can see, via the translator. I have tested this with minimal plugins, giving the same result. |

Hello there, Thank you for contacting WPML support. I'd be happy to assist you further on this issue. Can you please elaborate a little more so I can better understand? Links or screenshots would be helpful. Sometimes screenshots illustrating what you mean may go a long way to clarify what words fail to transmit so if you like make use of "upload an image" below the comment area. Look forward to your reply. Thanks |

Hi Shekhar, thanks for getting back to me. I've found a rather unexpected way of getting the diskplayer to work on the translated page. It is unexpected as previously, the diskplayer for each language had a separate ID. Using the "duplicate" option (centre right) the diskplayer ID is added to the translated page, where it should be, but unlike previously there is no translation and the ID for the translated page is the same as that for the original. Is this WAD? Presumably the Yoast (bottom left) canonical URL will be the same for both pages as the diskplayer is the same. If that's WAD, it's not a problem, but I would like to be sure. |

Hello there, Are you referring to WAD as "working as designed"? The id's of the pages will be different for languages, this is how it works. If you have duplicated a page to secondary language, the secondary language should point canonical URL back to the original language as this is a duplicated content. Also, if the page isn't duplicated or doesn't have similar content, the canonical URL will point to itself. Let me know if this helps. Thanks |

Hi again, WAD is as you say. The ID's of disk players ARE the same when you duplicate them to a second language. This is an expression of the issue. It is currently not possible to translate a disc player and copy content from one language to another, this feature which I used to use is now broken. The Media attachments "Duplicate uploaded media to translations" on the primary language player is broken. Likewise. on the second language player, the "copy content from XXXXX" and "Overwrite with XXXX content" options, which used to synchronise the translation with the original and its media, are broken. They copy nothing but the page title as far as I can see, to the translation. If you use any translate from first language option, you have to manually build the second language player with media which is why I tried using the duplicate option. The duplicated language page, however, cannot be edited to point to a different URL because it's not a genuine duplication, just the use of one ID in multiple languages. That being so, it is currently not possible to point a disc player in a second language to its own language canonical URL |

Hi, it's not a good moment as the site is live, no test site, and I'm working on it intensively right now. The duplication works well enough for the moment, I'll get back to you during a quieter time. Thanks |

Sure, will you be ok to use one of our test servers, we can create a test site and you can migrate your site without any issues, so we can work there without affecting your site. Look forward to your reply. Thanks |

That sounds excellent, thanks. In the meantime, the Duplicate option has disappeared completely so I have to do everything manually. I've changed the discplayers to "no-index" so the canonical issue is solved. Tell me what you need to migrate the site. |

before we go there, I think I've sorted it, but it raises the question as to how the problem arose in the first place. I've just found that the system fields were set to "don't translate." I've set them to copy and a test just worked. Is it possible that these settings could/would have been changed during a site migration or some other event? |
