So i have a website which is 5affadly.com in english and I have the same website in Arabic in a subdirectory which gives me 5affadly.com/ar i want to use wpml as
1. A language switcher between both languages that can link any page in both languages to each other (even if i have to do the linking manually, it's ok with me)
2. to detect the user's browser language and redirect automatically to the proper language.
3. In the arabic version i want to use wpml to translate some strings in some plugins and post it only in the arabic website how do i do that without wpml creating an extra part of a url of it's own ex: 5affadly.com/ar/ar/.... (i need the url as it currently is 5affadly.com/ar/....)

Hi,

Thank you for contacting WPML support!

If I am not mistaken, all of this is a part of WPML default functionality and should work without issues given that the Arabic site is set as Language URL format -> Different languages in directories. Have you tried it there but saw that it is not working, or?

1. A language switcher between both languages that can link any page in both languages to each other (even if i have to do the linking manually, it's ok with me)

https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/language-setup/language-switcher-options/#separate-sections-for-different-kinds-of-language-switchers

2. to detect the user's browser language and redirect automatically to the proper language.
https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/language-setup/automatic-redirect-based-on-browser-language/

3. In the arabic version i want to use wpml to translate some strings in some plugins and post it only in the arabic website how do i do that without wpml creating an extra part of a url of it's own ex: 5affadly.com/ar/ar/.... (i need the url as it currently is 5affadly.com/ar/....)

Whatever you translate using String Translation will not get extra url part - these are stored in database alone simply as string translations.

ok so to be sure and to confirm with you :
I already have an arabic subdirectory before even installing wpml. WPML has nothing to do with the arabic subdirectory or the already existing translations that i have already manually done and implemented.
is this going to affect any of the 3 questions that i asked earlier ?

Hi,

I already have an arabic subdirectory before even installing wpml.

Does it mean that this site is not part of the same installation? If not, that none of this would work I'm afraid. You could check this thread, though, as that client most likely asked the same question and our supporter Ahmed answered them:
https://wpml.org/forums/topic/link-multiple-wordpress-installations/

If you would still like to proceed, perhaps you can ask our Contractors for a quote:
https://wpml.org/contractors/

But based on the size of Arabic site, perhaps the cheapest and fastest method would be to import Arabic site into your existing WPML installation (it would require a certain amount of manual work, though, depending on the site size).

Bruno Kos
