I also see many wp_icl_string_packages errors on our WordPress site. In ticket https://wpml.org/forums/topic/lots-of-errors-in-error-log-re-wp_icl_string_packages/ I read that I had to contact support to solve the problem because it is necessary to do a fix on the database.

Hi,

Thank you for contacting WPML support!

Can you paste these error logs here, so that I can have a better idea on which errors exactly are you referring to?

Are these perhaps:

WordPress database error Table 'xxxx_database_name.wp_icl_string_packages' doesn't exist for query SELECT CONCAT(kind_slug, '-', name) FROM wp_icl_string_packages made by require('wp-blog-header.php'), require_once('wp-load.php'), require_once('wp-config.php')...

Also, can you update WPML and all its addons before we resume debugging this? We can only support our clients if they have the latest versions installed, as this means that there have been many upgrades, bug fixes and general improvements since.

Regards,
Bruno Kos

Thank you for your quick response Bruno. I updated WPML Multilingual CMS & String Translation this morning. These are the WPML two plugins that we use.

I'm not sure where/how I can copy the error logs in WordPress. I saw the errors in our Query monitor plugin. I added the errors as screenshots in the attachment.

Please let me know how I can copy the error logs for you if needed.

Hi,

Can you try using the following function?
https://wpml.org/forums/topic/wpml-not-generating-icl_-database-tables/#post-2269692

If that does not work, have a look at this:

Hi Bruno,

Thank you for the provided solutions. Option 2 (https://wpml.org/forums/topic/icl_string_packages-doesnt-exist/#post-4100747) fixed the database errors that we saw in the query monitor.

I still see multiple duplicate queries. Can you tell me how we could fix those?

Hi,

Can you tell me if you have an option to create a staging site and to install WPML 4.3.0 release candidates there?

Please see this answer about what new versions of WPML and especially string translation will bring:
https://wpml.org/forums/topic/wcml-4-7-0-b-8-wpml-st-3-0-0-b-9-hundreds-of-duplicate-db-queries/#post-4770971

So it is difficult to pinpoint on where these duplicate queries are coming from and how to even resolve them, but SQL queries and database optimization is something that is currently being worked on in order to work on performance.
https://wpml.org/2019/08/wpml-4-3-beta-1-with-much-faster-string-translation/

So it would be great if you can test your site using these latest release candidates which should go public in the next couple of weeks.

Hi Bruno,

Great to hear that SQL queries and database optimization is something that is currently being worked on which should go public in the next couple of weeks. I asked our technical team to look into the option to create a staging site so we can already test it.

The issue that I'm encountering now - after applying the 2 solutions from your reply #4748621 - are:

1. We are not able to upload images anymore into the media library. We receive the following error message

The upload file could not be moved to wp-content/uploads/2019/10

and we see that the max upload size is adjusted into 640MB. This used to be 8 MB.

2. When we are logged in the WP-Admin side, and we open a (preview of) one of our WordPress pages, the page layout doesn't work at all (see screenshot).

This happened after applying the 2 solutions from your reply #4748621. Do you know how we can fix this?

Or is this because we only have the WPML plugins "WPML Multilingual CMS" and "WPML String Translation" installed? So, the plugin "Media translator" isn't installed/used.

Hi,

This Monday we released 4.3.0 WPML, along with all the other addons. Can you update them all first before we resume working on this?

All these bring major changes in how String Translation works.

Related to the issue with uploading images, according to this it is most likely a permission issue, which is something you will need to check on your server well:
