Hello,

We have a WordPress MU instance with WPML, WPML Translation Management, WPML String Translation network-enabled and WPML Media enabled on this specific site (Site ID: 1 - we use it for multimedia master).
Now we want to send the Media files (with metadata) for translation, and we found the help topics on how to include the Media fields (https://wpml.org/forums/topic/i-want-to-export-media-attachents-alt-texts-to-xliff-for-my-translator-to-use/), but we don't have any Media Selector in Translation management (Last bullet point/feature mentioned here: https://wpml.org/version/media-translation-2-3-0/) - the item selection list is actually empty.
Did this feature move somewhere or do we need any other perquisites for this to work? We would really like to avoid enabling WPML Media globally/network - and I suspect that Translation Management doesen't pick up the "locally" enabled WPML Media.
Just a footnote, Word Count Estimator in Translation Management does show Media count.

Any ideas? Do you need any other info?
Thanks!

This chat has been inactive for quite a while so I'm transforming this chat into a support ticket because I believe you might still have some questions. You'll still be troubleshooting the problem with me and this way we will not lose any progress made so far.

Here are the screenshots that I intended to add.
Do you see the same when you add posts or pages that include media?
Please let me know.

Thanks,
Itamar.

Hi,

thanks for your reply - the info and screenshots are very useful. So this functionality doesen't cover our desired use-case (it works a bit differently than we expected).
So we would basicly need an ability to export data present in Media Translation view/table - for example:
<image/attachment id>; title_en; alt_en; title_de; alt_de;...

We're looking into building a SQL query/small script for this - could you help us with this? Maybe any pointers how this data is stored and how to best access it?

Thanks.

Hello,

Itamar won't be available for a few days. If you don't mind, I'll continue with you on this request.

Please note the WPML tables involved in the translation of WordPress posts in general. Media are a custom post type. They are handled in this exact way.
https://wpml.org/documentation/support/wpml-tables/

Custom fields are handled in the WordPress regular way.

If you still want to translate image by XILFF export/import, I suggest you create a post and attach all the needed images to it, then send it to translation and export XILFF file from it.

Finally, you can always suggest this feature according to your use case in this page https://wpml.org/suggest-a-new-feature-for-wpml/

I hope this helps. Let me know if there is anything else I can do.

Best regards,
Jamal
