Hello

Updating soho 2.x is not recommanded. What I am going to do is to install a complete new site with 3.x version.
My question is : What is the best way to recover the transaltion I made pour this theme and plugins in 2.x ?
Is there a way to do it efficiently ?
Thanks

Hi,

Thank you for contacting WPML support!

What is the best way to recover the transaltion I made pour this theme and plugins in 2.x ?

I am not familiar with Soho theme, but can you tell me what's the difference between the two and why translations don't work (images and links would help)?

I see this:
hidden link

Version 3.0 – March 29th, 2019
-- - Updated WPBakery Page Builder to 5.7

Version 2.8 – August 30th, 2018
-- - Updated Visual Composer to 5.5.2

Translations created with WPBakery Page Builder (if it was used) should work on both Soho versions, even after the update.

Bruno Kos

Hi,

How can I reuse what I did ?

Perhaps you should ask the theme developers about this, especially if some these translations came with .MO files, but I don't think these should be changed. However, I can tell you this:
- translated strings, if using the same textdomain (there is 99.9% chanse that this is the case), these should work further without issues
- there may be new strings and you should scan the updated theme using "WPML -> Theme and plugins localization -> Strings in the themes" and translate them there
- I definitely suggest you do this all on a staging site first, because It is really hard to predict any outcome, especially if a major difference between versions
- there is also this option for backups: https://wpml.org/forums/topic/how-to-export-and-import-strings/#post-1138384

Hello
Is there a way to make a "bulk" save and restore via FTP, without performing all these manual click operations ?
Thanks

Hi,

You can quickly make a full site backup and clone it elsewhere using Duplicator:

hello
I was talking about WPML files.
Cannot use duplicator because cannot upgrade from soho 2.x to Soho 3.x.
The guy advice us to install from scratch.
that s why I want to avoid translating everything.

Hi,

I was talking about WPML files.

If you are referring to WPML plugin files, I am not sure why would you backup them anyway, as you can always download them from https://wpml.org/account/downloads/

Because deleting WPML files will not remove any translations and WPML settings.

However, if you are referring to all the translations you've done, then you can use Duplicator and create a database backup only, because WPML does not a have a system that would backup the whole thing (settings, translations, po files). Since it uses multiple modules and database tables to translate the site (String Translation, Translation Management, etc) it would require a complex system to get it all at one:
https://wpml.org/forums/topic/backup-in-short-way/#post-1208521

Also, translations themselves are not actually WPML data, but regulars posts and pages stored by WordPress, so exporting WPML specific tables would not suffice.

The guy advice us to install from scratch.

Maybe they mean removing the theme files using FTP and installing these anew? Or deleting the theme from the dashboard and installing a new version

Hi,

We are taking the wrong path.

I apologize, but I am really trying to understand what you're after here and suggested all the possible backup options already. Can you tell me if you've seen this answer I linked to:
https://wpml.org/forums/topic/how-to-export-and-import-strings/#post-1138384

May I give my credentials so you can see my pb and help to mv fw ?

Having credentials wouldn't help me, since I really don't understand the problem. 🙁

Hi,
Actually, I followed your method and import the transalation. They are in but not marked as TRANSLATED, so not working.
Any idea ?

Hi,

Actually, I followed your method and import the transalation.

May I ask which method of all I mentioned are you referring to and what content has not been translated? What has been imported exactly? Maybe you could send me some URLs and screenshots and provide me with wp-admin info so I could check:

I have marked your next reply private so you can safely add this information.

Please make a full backup of your site before sharing this info!

You can use plugins such as UpdraftPlus WordPress Backup Plugin (https://wordpress.org/plugins/updraftplus/) or ask your host to perform a site backup.

Hi,

Are you referring to Strings (within String Translation) for the theme here? Can you show me an image on what should I be looking at?
