My Woocommerce site is in finnish and I auto translated it to english, now I need to autotranslate some products from english to finnish, because manufacturers product details are in english and I don't want that to be translated differently. I am able to create product in english and auto translate it to finnish, but is there some trick or snippet or something how to make that finnish translation to be the main product, so it is easier to change eg. price etc. so that it updates the english version too?

Hello,

Thanks for contacting us.

While you wait for my colleague to take over the ticket, let me try to help you with the issue quickly.

Yes, it is possible to change the original language of a single post by disconnecting it from its translations, updating the language, and then reconnecting it again. This can be a useful workaround in cases like yours where you want to adjust the content flow between languages.

That said, please keep in mind this is a more manual process and should be done carefully. It’s important to ensure translations are properly reconnected afterward, and in the case of WooCommerce products, some fields like price or stock may need to be checked and re-synced.

I would strongly recommend doing this first on a staging site and making a full backup before applying it on production.

Steps to Change a Single Post's Original Language

- Backup your site before making changes.
- Edit the post in the WordPress editor.
- Locate the Language box in the right-hand sidebar.
- If the post is translated, you must first disconnect it from its translations.
- Change the Language of this post to the new desired language.
- Re-connect it to its previous translations using the Connect with translations option if needed.
