This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
The client was unable to see the place to paste the code for automatic translation because both the main site and the subsite did not have any credits available.
Solution:
We recommended the following steps to resolve the issue:
- Unregister WPML from the site by going to Plugins → Add New Plugin, clicking on the Commercial tab, and then clicking the "Unregister WPML" button.
- Delete the current sitekey from https://wpml.org/account/sites/
- Create a new sitekey
- Register the site with the new sitekey using the same steps as unregistering the site.
- Once registered, you will be able to see the allocated credits on the main site.
- Login to the sub-site and create a migration code.
- Connect with the main site.
This process ensures that the sitekey is updated for proper credit and plugin management, and it will not affect the translations.

If this solution does not resolve your issue or seems irrelevant due to being outdated or not applicable to your case, we highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. I was told to follow instructions at https://wpml.org/documentation/automatic-translation/automatic-translation-subscription-for-multiple-sites/ but they don't apply to my site.

Hi,

Welcome to WPML support.

First of all, I want to know if you purchased Credits? Or did you enable the Pay As You Go mode by providing your credit card information directly from the WordPress Dashboard?

If you use the Credits, please assign the credits to the main site. Then you can use the migration code to also connect the subsites.

For more information:
https://wpml.org/documentation/automatic-translation/automatic-translation-subscription-for-multiple-sites/#how-to-connect-your-sites

Thanks.

The credits aren't the problem. I have plenty of credits assigned to the site I'm working on (hidden link -- Note this is a child site in a multisite environment). (See "Credits.png" attachment).

The instructions say to copy the code from the Translation Dashboard > Payments and Maintenance tab. (See "Translation Dashboard - Payments and Maintenance.png" attachment.) I've done this in the past. But if you look at the screenshot, there's the copy button, but no place to paste it.

Instead there's a message saying to paste the key in Translation Management > Translation Tools > Settings > Connected Sites in the settings, but there's no such section in my WPML plugin.

I was never asked for debugging information (which is usually the first thing WPML asks from me) but don't know if it's safe to paste in this message. All of the plugins are up-to-date (see "Plugins.png" attachment).

Hi,

Thank you for th information. Please check the "How Can I Use Automatic Translation On Multisites?" section of the documentation below:

https://wpml.org/documentation/support/multisite-support/

Important: You cannot assign prepaid credits to a specific subsite from your WPML account as subsites share the main site’s key.

So what you need to do is to assign the credits to the main website. Then you will be able to copy the code from the subsite and add it to the main website to connect the subsite to the main website.

Thanks.

The instructions you pointed me to lead me to this page:
https://wpml.org/documentation/automatic-translation/automatic-translation-subscription-for-multiple-sites/#how-to-connect-your-sites

The instructions and screenshots on this page are not possible for me. Please, check the screenshots I attached in my previous comment and you'll see that the interface of the updated plugins do not match the documentation anymore.

I cannot find where in the main site to paste the Migration code from the child site and connect the two.

Hello,

Christopher is currently on vacation, so I’ll be taking care of this ticket in the meantime. I hope that’s okay.

I checked and noticed that you have two sites available on the network, the main site, hidden link and the subsite hidden link

I see both of them doesn't have any credit available, as a reason you aren't able to see the place to paste the code. The main site should have credits to be connected

I would suggest you the following steps:
- Unregister WPML from the site
- Delete the current sitekey from https://wpml.org/account/sites/
- Create a new sitekey
- Register the site with new sitekey
- Once register you will be able to see the allocated credits on the main site
- Login to the sub-site and create a migration code
- Connect with main site.

Please let me know how it goes, if the above doesn't help, please upgrade my privileges to network administrator so I can check it further.

Look forward to your reply.

Thanks

I can give this a shot but need explicit instructions on how to "unregister WPML from the site" and then "registering the site with the new site key".

I need explicit instructions because, so far, the instructions I've been given haven't been applicable to the WPML interface I'm seeing. I want to make sure that the instructions I'm given match my interface.

Also, what will happen regarding WPML functionality during the time that my site is "unregisterd"? Will the translations break or be unavailable somehow on the sites?

Hello there,

Here are the complete steps:
- Unregister WPML from the site
-- Go to the Plugins → Add New Plugin.
-- Click on the Commercial tab.
--Then, click the "Unregister WPML" button.
- Delete the current sitekey from https://wpml.org/account/sites/
- Create a new sitekey
- Register the site with new sitekey, same steps as unregistering the site.
- Once register you will be able to see the allocated credits on the main site
- Login to the sub-site and create a migration code
- Connect with main site.

Sitekey is used for credit and plugin management, the translations will not be affected due to sitekey.

Look forward to your reply.

Thanks

I'm waiting to hear back from my translators on whether or not this has fixed the situation.

I updated the key in the multisite admin. This changed the views I was seeing before.

On the child site (see child-site-connected-sites.png) I don't see the ability to copy a migration code, but instead see what I think indicates that the site is connected already.

Is this what I should be seeing?

I'm also wondering if you can tell me about my Registered Sites list (see wpml-inactive-keys.jpg). Should I be concerned about the exclamation points (I placed red borders around them in the attachment). The plugins on the production sites are up-to-date.

Hello there,

Yes, it looks like the site is already connected.

Regarding the exclamation marks, they indicate missing plugins. You can install or activate those plugins on your site.

Please let me know how the translations go.

Thanks
