This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
You are experiencing technical errors on your site due to outgoing Hreflang annotations to no index URLs, specifically on /tag/ pages, and you wish to remove these annotations.
Solution:
In WPML, you can disable hreflang tags for all pages and languages by navigating to WPML → Languages → SEO Options. Unfortunately, it is not currently possible to remove hreflang tags for specific pages only; disabling them will affect all pages. Additionally, you can mark specific pages as no-index using plugins like Yoast SEO.

Please note that this solution might be outdated or not applicable to your specific case. We highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. If the issue persists, please open a new support ticket at WPML support forum for further assistance.

Symptoms:
The site is showing technical errors due to outgoing Hreflang annotations to no index URLs.

Questions:
How can I resolve the issue of outgoing Hreflang annotations to no index URLs?
Is there a way to remove hreflang from specific pages using WPML?

Thank you for contacting WPML support.

In WPML, you can disable hreflang tags for all pages and languages in WPML → Languages → SEO Options.

Currently, it is not possible to remove hreflang tags for specific pages only. If you want to remove them, it will apply to all pages using the option found within WPML → Languages.

You can try to mark specific pages as no-index using Yoast SEO, for example.

These pages are already marked as no index. However the hreflang annotation conflicts with that. I want to remove hreflang from these pages as they are only category pages and not actual pages. If your plugin does not have the functionality to do so and therefore is causing critical SEO issues I will have to find an alternative.

Could you please provide some examples, as well as explain how you marked them as "no index"? As I mentioned, there are no specific pages to set up.
