If you do need to open a ticket please make sure to provide us with all the needed information as described in this page

This is the technical support forum for WPML - the multilingual WordPress plugin.

Everyone can read, but only WPML clients can post here. WPML team is replying on the forum 6 days per week, 22 hours per day.

This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem: My website is in English (main) and French. I have several CPT and several ACF (including repeater field) foreach CPT. I use Multilingual Content Setup to choose how to translate each field.

When I try to edit an option into the MCS Post metabox, click on Apply, my current Post is duplicated several times and is directly published. It's even doing that just clicking on Apply actually.

Solution: To solve my problem, I had to fill the "Translation preferences" option for each ACF field, an option which didn't exists when I built the site.

Hello,
Thank you for contacting WPML support.

1.- This seems to be a compatibility issue between WPML and a third party functionality. I would like to ask you to follow this steps in order to isolate the cause of the issue:
- Back up your site first before making any change, this is for security reasons.
- Update all outdated plugins and themes, specially WPML plugins, to their latest version. Outdated functionalities can cause conflicts in the code.
- Flush any cache memory that might exists.
- Deactivate all the plugins that are not related to WPML.
- Switch for a moment to a WordPress default theme like Twenty Seventeen.
- If the issue is gone, activate one by one to see with which one there is an interaction issue.

Could you tell me the result of this steps?

2.- Please increase the PHP Memory Limit. Minimum requirements are 128Mb: https://wpml.org/home/minimum-requirements/
You can add this to wp-config.php to increase WP memory:

/** Memory Limit */
define('WP_MEMORY_LIMIT', '128M');
define( 'WP_MAX_MEMORY_LIMIT', '128M' );

- Add it above the line /* That's all, stop editing! Happy blogging. */

Kind regards,
Carlos

Hi Carlos,

Thank you for your help.
I managed to find where was the problem but I cannot explain why it happens.
Actually I have 23 JSON files in my theme /acf-json/ folder, used to create fields, mainly for types.
With this files, applying the Multilingual Content Setup options was duplicating my current Post from 10 to 30 times (not 23, I think there is no link between the number of JSON files and the number of duplicated Posts).
Without this files, the current Post is not duplicated.

Do you have any idea about that ?
Thank you in advance

Hi,
Thank you very much for your message.

It seems that we are making progress. I would like to request temporary access (wp-admin and FTP) to your site to take better look at the issue. You will find the needed fields for this below the comment area when you log in to leave your next reply. The information you will enter is private which means only you and I can see and have access to it.

Our Debugging Procedures

I will be checking various settings in the backend to see if the issue can be resolved. Although I won't be making changes that affect the live site, it is still good practice to backup the site before providing us access. In the event that we do need to debug the site further, I will duplicate the site and work in a separate, local development environment to avoid affecting the live site.

Regards,
Carlos

Hi,
Thank you very much for the information provided.

Could you tell me if the issue persists in a minimal setup? (Only WPML plugins and ACF plugins active + a default WordPress theme)

If the issue persists, please describe step by step how to reproduce the issue in a specific custom post type.

Regards,
Carlos

Hi,

I just kept WPML & ACF Plugins and the issue persists.
Changing the theme would solve the issue as the acf-json folder is in.

Thank you for your time.

Hi,
Thank you very much for your feedback.

This seems to be a compatibility issue. To isolate this issue I have created a test site with a fresh new WordPress installation and WPML plugins installed already.

I kindly ask you to access the test site using this link: hidden link
Install the theme and try to reproduce the issue.

Could you tell me if you were able to reproduce the issue?

Regards,
Carlos

Hi Carlos,

I've uploaded my custom theme, both ACF & ACFML plugins and my ACF json files.
I've edited the Sample Page and once I clicked on Apply in the Multilingual Content Setup metabox, my Page has been duplicated 3 times.

We are close to find 😉
Thank you again

Hi Carlos,

I've totally emptied my custom theme..
- empty functions.php / index.php / style.css files
- acf-json folder
and I still get the issue.
It means for me there is a problem between the Multilingual Content Setup settings and the acf-json folder into the theme.
Are you aware what acf does exactly with this folder ?
Thank you for your help.

Hi,

I'm sorry but I don't know what ACF does with that folder. I recommend you to contact the ACF's support service and they should give you an answer.

Please keep me updated of their answer.

Carlos

Hi,

I finally managed to figure out where was the problem. Even if not really why.
To solve my problem, I had to fill the "Translation preferences" option for each ACF field, an option which didn't exists when I built the site.

That could be useful for other people.

Thank you for your help anyway.
