Tell us what you are trying to do?
I do not want the double name of the menu items
I just want to
German / English and not
German (German) / English (English)

Is there any documentation that you are following?

Is there a similar example that we can see?

What is the link to your site?

Hello @michaelr-65, welcome to the WPML support forum!

The language switchers are added and customized on the WPML -> Languages menu on your WordPress dashboard. Here you can choose where to display it and what information it will contain like names, flags, etc.

Here is the link of the documentation, with more information that may be helpful:

In your case, you need to go to the section related to your language switcher (probably menu language switcher), open the customization options and disable the "native language name" box in the "What to include in the language switcher" field.

Please let me know if it worked for you.

All the best,
