This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem When I try to register WPML for my local sites, I get this error: SSLRead() return error -9806.

Solution This is not a problem with WPML. It is something related to the server configuration, especially with OSX (Mac). See the helpful guide at: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/26461966/osx-10-10-curl-post-to-https-url-gives-sslread-error

You're using the latest versions of WPML 3.3 and its add-ons.

It looks like you're using Mac? I think this problem seems to related to the server (or your Mac/PC in this case).

I found this http://stackoverflow.com/questions/26461966/osx-10-10-curl-post-to-https-url-gives-sslread-error . Does that help?

Hi Dat, your answer "helps" insofar pinpointing the problem.

Of course I am not going to change my entire local dev setup just to be able to register WPML on my local dev sites.

Anyways, thanks for the pointer, at least now we know what it is and I don't need to be frustrated anymore about WPML not willing to register. Manual updates it is then 🙂

This issue isn't really resolved, If I understand the post on stackoverflow correct this issue is because you don´t allow SSLv3?

I need a way to register without having to install alternate versions of php.
