The nitro theme is in English. So we installed the WPML, set the default language to English and copied all sites & woocommerce products for german versions. Then we set German as the default language.
But in woocommerce all the products displayed still English with German translation. They should have been German with English translation in our understanding.
We changed the default language back to English. The idea is to translate all the theme content (mostly automatically) and the woocommerce (products etc manually) to German now. Then to change back the default language to German. How can we make sure that all the German translation will be taken as default as soon as we set German again to default language?

Hello @maximilianp-4, welcome to the WPML support Forum!

The products were originally created in English and then translated into German, correct? In these cases, they will continue the same way even if you change the default language of the website. Each post will continue to belong to the language in which it was created. Even though the default language of the website has been modified.

To modify that, you will need to edit each product:
- Go to Woocommerce > Woocommerce Multilingual > Settings > Product Translation Interface and set it as "Native WooCommerce product editing screen"
- Go to the edit screen of the product (default language)
- Change the language using the Language Switcher at the top admin bar
- On the right sidebar, there is a "This is a translation of" field. Set it to "none" and save
- Go to the edit screen of the product (on default language) and click on "Connect with translations"
- Select the product to connect and save

This way the "original" and "Translation" status will be modified on each post.

Please let me know if it worked for you.

All the best,
