Kostas

Hi there. As in the title, i need the same products in both languages of the site.
The client was using qTranslate, i migrated, everything is fine, but now i have the same products in two languages. We do not want that.
So, the right steps will be (?)
1. delete all products in the other language (not main)
2. delete WooCommerce WPML plugin
3. make the right selection at the settings (links below)

is this correct? with these steps, will i get the same products at loops for example, in both languages? i have read this articles too.

https://wpml.org/forums/topic/use-same-products-categories-for-both-languages/

thanks

Hi Kostas,

Thank you for contacting WPML support!

If I got your scenario right, this is how you would do it:

""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""
1. delete all products in the other language (not main)
3. make the right selection at the settings (links below)
""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""

https://wpml.org/documentation/related-projects/woocommerce-multilingual/displaying-untranslated-products-in-secondary-languages/

As for:
2. delete WooCommerce WPML plugin

I would definitely not suggest this, if only for the following reasons:
- it will add some other capabilities when it comes to multilingual WooCommerce setup
- it will not force you to translate products - you can freely use the option link above even with this plug-in active
- it will allow you to use stuff like multicurrency, translating slugs (if needed), troubleshooting if needed and other functions

Kostas

Hi there, first of all, thanks for getting back to me that fast.
I tried the above method but it only worked with NEW added products. For existing products it gives a 404 page. Is there something else i should do?
Thanks

Hi,

You should be seeing a button below this text which should allow you fix it - can you try clicking? If the issue is still there, can you check these topics and try what has been suggested there:
https://wpml.org/forums/topic/product_type/#post-3936959
https://wpml.org/forums/topic/i-get-a-notification-for-product_types/#post-2969567
https://wpml.org/forums/topic/product_type-field-was-set-incorrectly-for-some-product-translations-3/#post-2876745
https://wpml.org/forums/topic/we-detected-that-the-product_type-field-was-set-incorrectly-for-some-product-tra-4/#post-2868778

These all cover the same issue, but there are different approaches on how to resolve based on what is causing it on your specific setup.

The above is resolved, but i have another issue now that my client found out.. I will try to describe it the better way i can...

1. I DO NOT translate the products, there are only in one language
2. I need to translate the categories ONLY

Right now, we have no categories at the e-shop in English, the categories ARE translated but not visible at the widget.

At the taxonomy translation, i have chosen the first option (i attach an image), is that right?
When i select the third, i can see the categories at the site but not the right categories. I guess that it has something to do with the products not being assigned to them (i mean only in greek, not in english).

I am really confused here, sorry if i confused you too but i do not now what to do... sorry
Thanks in advance,
Kostas

Hi,

2. I need to translate the categories ONLY

I'm afraid that it will not work - if you translate categories, these will be different categories now and not the ones to which the original products are assigned to, meaning that if you do not translate (or duplicate) these products, nothing will show up.

Can you have a look at this answer? I think it may give some ideas what is behind this (assuming that what you're asking is the same):
