I am trying to:
We have a website with Woocommerce and WPML.
Recently we've run into issues when saving product information in the back-end.
The issue only happens when the WPML plugins are active

Link to a page where the issue can be seen:
(not visible - backend problem)

I expected to see:
- Product info saved
- Confirmation message
- Spinner gone

Instead, I got:
- high mysqld CPU usage
- white screen (max_execution_time error)
- product info seems to be saved...

+ What have you already tried:
- Updated WordPress and all plugins
- Run various WPML & Woocommerce maintenance tasks
- Enabled debug logging: did not log anything while saving product
- Changed max_execution_time to 15 minutes! Still times out... only later
- Tried a default theme, didn't solve issue
- Disabled all plugins plugins except WooCommerce & WPML plugins, didn't solve the issue
- Moved the site over to a new VPS with higher spec, didn't solve the issue
- Disabled WPML plugins - the issue gone but not in a way we like...

(This customer has its own lifetime license, that's why the site is not in our account)

Extra info: this is not a site in development, it is a live site!
Its just not one of the options listed in our account.

The site has been running fine for 2 years and we've allways kept WordPress & plugins up to date.
The problems started about a month ago and only seem to happen on products added since then. On these products the issues comes up on every attempt to save.

We checked the site in a development environment with a PHP debugger and profiler.
When the issue comes up the PHP process seems to be stuck in some kind of endless loop.
It keeps running queries looking up and saving posts.
This leeds us to the conclusion that something probably got referenced in a wrong way in the database causing the saving issues.

Hi there,

Based on your information it seems you have already tried most of the basic testing including testing the site only with WPML plugin active.

Please provide us with a snapshot of the site so that we have a detailed look into the issue. Also, provide us with the product name which has the issue.

You can use the Duplicator plugin to create a snapshot of the site and share the package link with me http://wordpress.org/plugins/duplicator/

I have enabled private fields for you to securely share the details

Kind regards
Raja

Hey there,

I missed the fact the product info is added using Advanced custom field. To make the advanced custom fields translatable. Please install our glue plugin "Advanced Custom fields Multilingual", Which can be downloaded from https://wpml.org/account/downloads/

Once you have installed please follow the tutorial to make the custom fields translatable https://wpml.org/documentation/related-projects/translate-sites-built-with-acf/#reviewing-the-translation-preference-after-updating-to-acfml-1-1

Once you have set the fields to translate, Update the product original content the open the translation to edit the translation the fields will be available in the translation editor.

I hope this helps you better, Let me know if you need further assistance.

kind regards
Raja

Hi Raja,

We’ve never had this issue before.
Even now we only experience it on recent products.

Do you really think ACF has anything to do with this problem?

Kind regards, Han

Hi Raja,

Unfortunately I cannot fully follow you guidelines since they break the customers requests.
Currently there are two different Field groups "Product info", one for each language.
Either one is used for each product.

I've added the plugin as requested.
Following the tutorial I've set all fields to either "Don't translate" or 'Copy' through WPML Settings.
After that the red exclamation marks are gone which looks promising.
Unfortunately updating a product still results in an endless loop.

I hope you can offer a solution for the saving issue.

Hi there,

I have tested this in the duplicator package, I am able to save the new products. I can see in the logs that the PHP max var limit is restricting the product save function and end up with an error.

Increase the PHP max input vars to a limit to <b>3000</b>, your current value is 1000.
If you have access to cpanel please follow the link for a step by step guide hidden link, Please ask your hosting provider for help in case if you cannot handle it.

Please let me know the results.

Kind regards
Raja

Hi Raja,

I've updated max_input_vars to 3000, although I wasn't running into that.

Adding new products works well indeed.
I'm still unable to edit an existing product.
Is that also resolved at your end?

Kind regards, Han

Hi Raja,

I don't understand your comment.
Are you suggesting a downgrade to 4.3?

We're currently running WooCommerce Multilingual 4.6.3.
This is the latest version available on wpml.org and it doesn't solve the issue.

Kind regards, Han

Hi Raja,

On May 27 we already concluded that this fix was working on new problems.
The issue we're trying to resolve is saving existing (older) products.

Kind regards, Han
